Your Work From Home Technology Checklist

Now that we’re working from home, we don’t have immediate IT support as we used to when we were at a unified workspace. This being said, even if you do have an IT department working remotely, it might not be possible to reach out to them stat, which is why you need to have a tech checklist at hand when you start working from home.

Being technically sound is a mandate when you work in this day and age, but it\'s always wise to be well-equipped with the right tech tools and apps apart from those the company requires you to be on. This checklist of apps and software help you successfully maneuver through your daily workload without any glitches or errors.?

Master The Basics First

Before going into apps and tools that actually help you do the work in hand, make sure you have all the accessories required as a mandate when you’re working from a home office. This includes?a fast and reliable internet connection (usually 3-5 megabits), a fast-working and updated computer, your phone, a printer/scanner a webcam (this may be built into a laptop), and a headset or earbuds.

Also, consider getting?a surge protector to ensure your devices are protected from any voltage spikes. Don’t forget to ensure your anti-virus software is up to date and that your devices have the latest software updates installed.

Video Calling Apps

Have all the necessary video-calling apps in place, downloaded, and ready to use. Consider having Zoom, Skype, and Google Meets at your disposal since these are the most commonly used apps by companies across the world at the moment. These will allow you to easily call your peers to check-in, conduct meetings, or share what you’ve been working on, and being able to share your own computer screen is a handy feature.

Online Documents

Instead of saving documents offline through MS Word, PowerPoint, etc, keep everything online by getting into the habit of doing all our document-related word on Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and so on so forth. This enables you to access the files from any device provided you sign in to your Gmail account, and gives you the ability to share files with others almost instantly. This way, you can let multiple users share and edit documents in real-time and communicate, too.

Task Management Apps

Make sure you know which task management app your company is on, and set up this software on your laptop. If you are heading a particular remote team, make sure you set up software where your team can easily connect for work-only tasks and mark completion within deadlines. The most commonly used apps that can be a great source of productivity include Slack, Basecamp, Trello, and more.

Calendar Reminders

Since you don’t have co-workers and higher-ups reminding you of meetings and deadlines, make sure you set up your calendar in a way that reminds you of important tasks and schedules.?
