Your Why, and 3 + 1 tips on getting aligned with your brand

Hello there and welcome back!

I seem to have stumbled over a theme in the last couple of days – the theme, or rather a reminder – about why I am in business, and I want to pass this on to you.

Sometimes, with all that is going on around us, we lose track of the Why we do what we do, and we can start to feel heavy and demotivated. Chores are becoming even more “Meh”, and we start to spiral into a negative direction with our mood – which affects everything that we do.

So, let me ask you some questions to reminisce about over a cup of coffee or two:

  • What is your Why? What inspired you to step on the path of becoming your own boss, and taking on the world?
  • ?How did it feel when you had finally figured out who your ideal client is?
  • And what was the best ever moment for you in your business – a moment that you will absolutely NEVER forget and that still fills you up with utter joy?

For me, I can now easily answer the questions as they came up so often.

My Why: I LOVE making people happy and see their joy over something that I created, or when I was able to unlock a different view on things. I love being free of the shackles of the corporate world, and love that I can deliver my highest standards to people who will absolutely enjoy and thrive with what I can do for them. I can finally put my out of the box thinking to the service of other people without being constrained by – again – the shackles of the corporate world.

And as for my ideal client: When I had my revelation, it was effing EPIC! Having had my epiphany that I have a certain type of person rather than industry was so liberating! And the added bonus: All of a sudden, I found all those wonderful unicorns, the ones who are fed up with the SHOULDS and the ones who want to bring their visions to life and want that creative partner who can do that WITH and FOR them. I found the multi passionate, out of the box thinking business owners; the ones who love to have fun, and are really, really determined to get more out of their businesses in their unique way.

And one of the best moments: When I realised how much power there is in the freedom of choice. Or rather in the freedom itself.

When you answered the questions above, and you’re in the mood for MORE, here are some tips for you to get even more into alignment with your business – your brand:

  1. Having thought about your Why, think about your vision for your brand. Where do you want it to be by the end of the year?
  2. What is your mission – and do you have a clear mission statement that keeps you on track?
  3. What are your core values – and are they the same in your business? If you haven’t worked on your core values yet, I highly recommend doing this exercise. It can feel totally overwhelming (I know, I’ve been there too) but it is SO worth it. And don’t overthink it – it can indeed be as easy as just saying “I want to help other people because I love to help. I enjoy making others happy. I love creativity.” If you need help with this, there are lots of great online tools resp. lists of values from which you choose for example 15 values, then narrow those down to 10 and those to 5. And a wee trick: Many values you will choose are actually the same or fall into the same category – so boiling it down to the essence is easier than it looks.

  • When you are up for a challenge, do the same thing with your negative values – and when you have boiled them down to maybe 3 or 5, see how you can utilise them and turn them into positive ones. For me, perfectionism is actually on both sides – the positive value is “high standards”, the negative could be labelled as “obsession”. However, that obsession drives my attention to detail which then again feeds into the high standard. So I utilise the negative to turn it into a positive. And always remember: It is absolutely ok to have the good with the bad! We are humans, and we ALWAYS come with our light side – and the dark side where they always have cookies.

Now, I’ll leave you to this and have fun exploring and reconnecting with your Why.

Have an EPIC week, dear Reader!

Yours truly,

Heike
