Your Well-being and Work: What You and the Experts Say

Earlier this year, we asked the Conferences for Women community to complete a survey about well-being and work. A whopping 4,385 of you responded in record time.? As we mark Mental Health Awareness Month this month, we’re excited to share the results and some helpful tips from two of our favorite speakers on trusting yourself and embracing your “unicorn space.”? Happy reading!?

Our First-Ever “Women and the Health & Well-being Gap in the Workplace” Report

Of the 4,385 of you who responded, here’s what you had to say:?

  • 97.6% of you said well-being in the workplace is “very” or “extremely” important ?
  • 81.6% of you said your employers offer mental health programs or initiatives, ?
  • But 60.2% of you said you did not take advantage of the offerings.?

Asked why you did not take advantage of employer-sponsored well-being offerings, you offered a range of reasons — with fear of repercussions and perceived poor quality being tied for number one.? Of the 3,639 who said they had attended a Conferences for Women event in the past, 77.9% said it positively supported their well-being.

When Liz Tran began working in venture capital, she was asked to answer the following question: What qualities make someone a successful founder, CEO, or executive?? What she discovered surprised her. It led her to write The Karma of Success: Spiritual Strategies to Free Your Inner Genius and create Reset, an executive coaching company for CEOs and founders of some of the fastest-growing companies in the world. “The key is understanding yourself, your restrictions, your gifts, and your assets; no one can tell you who will be a better expert on that than you. It’s about trusting yourself,” says Tran. Read more here.? ?

A Cure-All for Burnout: Know Your Unicorn Space

Eve Rodsky ’s first book, The New York Times best-selling Fair Play, sparked an exciting conversation about how to achieve gender equality on the homefront.? Her latest book suggests that even if you achieve equality at home, something else is critical to women’s well-being. She calls it “Your Unicorn Space,” that “place where a person has some intention — even if just for a couple of minutes at a time — to do something that they enjoy outside of their obligations as a partner, parent, or professional.” Read more here.
