2024 Super Bowl Ads – the year of taking what people are talking about on social media and making an ad about it
This year’s Super Bowl gave us no shortage of material to talk about. With 16.7m total mentions of the Super Bowl across the globe (and counting), social media mentions during the game were up by 36%. And while a lot of these mentions were focussed on the game itself, as well as pop star Taylor Swift and her Super Bowl-winning boyfriend Travis Kelce, there was also many a mention of the much anticipated ads – and for good reason too!
It is no secret that the majority of Super Bowl ads harness the power of celebrity, but this year also saw brands harness the power of social. UberEats' ‘David and Victoria Beckham Forget', Cerave's Michael Cera ad, and ‘The DunKings’ by Dunkin’ were all informed by moments that had social media abuzz with commentary. These ads position social as one of the most valuable tools for brands to use – ensuring not only just appeal to wider audiences but cut-through too.?
And while mining insights from social media is not a new technique, it is becoming more prominent. So, to see brands using social listening on a stage where 123 million people in the US alone watched the broadcast is pretty impressive.
