The 2nd edition of the Glasgow City Region Tech Ecosystem report, created in partnership with Dealroom.co , Glasgow City Council and Invest Glasgow was launched yesterday at Glasgow Tech Fest, and helps shine a light on the specific growth sectors, opportunities and international benchmarks for the startup ecosystem of Glasgow City Region.
?? Innovator Spotlight:?Gemma Milne
Glasgow-based Gemma Milne is a science and technology writer and researcher focusing on the broader cultural issues surrounding advancements in these fields. She is the author of "Smoke & Mirrors: How Hype Obscures the Future and How to See Past It," which examines the role hype plays in dictating and derailing progress in STEM.
As a research associate at the è‹±å›½æ ¼æ‹‰æ–¯å“¥å¤§å¦ in the Digital Society & Economy group, she works on various technology and society research projects. Gemma also writes for outlets like The Guardian, WIRED, Forbes, and the BBC, and co-hosts the Radical Science podcast. This week, as part of Glasgow Tech Week, Gemma hosted Glasgow Tech Fest.
???University of Glasgow to establish UK’s most advanced semiconductor research facility
The è‹±å›½æ ¼æ‹‰æ–¯å“¥å¤§å¦ has secured a ï¿¡3 million grant to establish the UK’s most advanced research facilities for silicon chip integration and packaging. This new centre will enable the rapid prototyping and characterisation of various semiconductor devices, with potential applications in biomedical implants, sustainable and biodegradable sensors, and quantum computing interfaces.

The company has made significant contributions to the industry by revolutionising fish health management through non-lethal blood biomarker monitoring. This innovative approach enables fish farmers to continuously monitor the health of their stock without sacrificing fish.
?? GCU opens Scotland’s first MS Doctoral Training Centre
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has established Scotland's first MS Doctoral Training Centre to help people with moderate to severe multiple sclerosis (MS) manage their symptoms through physical activity. Scotland has the highest rates of MS in the world, with over 15,000 people affected. GCU has been at the forefront of groundbreaking research into MS for years, reinforcing its commitment to improving the lives of those with the condition.
???Strathclyde to open innovation, research and education hub in Bahrain
The è‹±å›½æ–¯ç‰¹æ‹‰æ–¯å…‹èŽ±å¾·å¤§å¦ has announced plans to significantly expand its activities in Bahrain. Drawing on the universities track record in teaching, research and innovation,?the Bahrain campus will offer educational courses in engineering, science and business. Future developments will include advancements in research and innovation, with the vision of creating a thriving innovation ecosystem in the capital city of Manama.
