Innovator Spotlight: Beata Ciesluk, University of the West of Scotland (UWS)
Well done to PhD student Beata who this week has scooped the prestigious national Robertson Medal?for her research into drug use in Scotland. She became the first UWS recipient of the award, presented annually by the Carnegie Trust to the most outstanding student on their?PhD scholarship programme.
Born in Poland, Beata gained a first-class?Psychology degree from UWS in 2020 before going on to gain a Masters with Distinction in Addiction Psychology in 2022.
Glasgow tops European rankings for attracting overseas investment strategy
World-leading business experts fDi Intelligence has ranked Glasgow as Europe's top large city for foreign investment, surpassing Bilbao, Porto, Dusseldorf?and Gothenburg.
This achievement is credited to the region's effective collaboration between government, academia, businesses, and the community, along with the hundreds of millions of pounds secured?in funding over the last 18 months, which has significantly advanced the innovative sectors within the city region.
West of Scotland gains £1.2M for six new innovation colleges
Supported by Innovate UK , a year-long pilot project will establish six innovation hubs at colleges throughout the city region. These hubs aim to spur growth in key sectors such as digital healthcare, sustainable development, and advanced manufacturing. Additionally, they will offer support and guidance to businesses, helping them integrate innovation into their operations.
