Innovator Spotlight: Ruaridh McNair , Glasgow Caledonian University

Congratulations to?recent Glasgow Caledonian University graduate Ruaridh McNair on winning?an IMechE Project Award. The IMechE award is?given to a final-year undergraduate student who completes an outstanding research, development or design project in mechanical engineering.

Ruaridh, who studied a BEng degree in Mechanical Systems, won the award for his project which looks at new approaches within the field of prescriptive maintenance.

Prescriptive maintenance is an evolution of existing maintenance methods and uses machine-learning algorithms to recommend settings on how to run a machine to minimise maintenance.

Construction of £12 million shipbuilding academy begins in Glasgow

Construction has begun on a new Applied Shipbuilding Academy at BAE Systems ’ Scotstoun shipyard on the banks of the River Clyde. Once complete it will?provide bespoke training for almost 4,500 employees, including nearly 700 apprentices.
