Game-changing Glasgow

Opened in 2022, the £117?million Mazumdar-Shaw Advanced Research Centre (ARC) at the 英国格拉斯哥大学 is the largest project in the University’s investment portfolio. As the universities?flagship research facility, it accommodates over 1,800 people across six floors. The ARC offers a unique environment for world-changing cross-disciplinary research, promoting collaboration and pioneering new ways of working.

?? Innovator Spotlight: Carlota Mendez Torrecillas , Senior?Project Scientist at CMAC ?

Born in Northern Spain, Carlota was inspired to undertake a career in STEM through a teacher who sparked her interest in science and technology. With a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Carlota moved to Newcastle to obtain her masters, before pursuing her PhD in Glasgow.?

In her current role as Project Scientist at CMAC, Carlota is the Theme Lead for Formulation/Drug Product at the National Facility, where she tackles challenges to find the best route to formulate new drugs into pills. This means that when companies or research groups approach CMAC with technical hurdles they are experiencing, Carlota designs experiments and coordinates the team to find a solution within CMAC’s facilities.

?? Scottish EDGE and Techscaler unite to support early-stage startups

Scotland’s flagship startup programme has joined forces with the nation’s biggest business funding competition. Techscaler , the Scottish Government’s £42 million tech education and mentoring programme, will work with Scottish EDGE – which is backed by Scottish business mogul Sir Tom Hunter. The partnership aims to drive Scotland’s ‘maturing entrepreneurial ecosystem’ – allowing businesses that receive EDGE funding to also access Techscaler support.

Strathclyde researchers believe that analysing combined data from the UK Biobank, a unique repository containing information from over half a million Britons, could lead to groundbreaking discoveries in breast cancer understanding and treatment. Breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women globally, and scientists from the university see great potential in studying these larger, combined datasets to help identify the unique biological features of different breast cancer variants, paving the way for more targeted and effective treatments in the future.

?? University of Glasgow among top 80 in QS World Rankings

The 英国格拉斯哥大学 has been ranked 78th in the 2025 QS World Rankings, a globally-recognised league table featuring over 1,500 institutions. This year, Glasgow achieved top 50 placements in three indicators: Sustainability (20th), International Research Network (30th)?and International Students (49th).
