Your Voice Matters

Your Voice Matters

Happy Monday, everyone!

Today, we’re all in for an interesting ride: election week! I'm not here to overwhelm you but to share some of my thoughts.

You know how it is. We’re all caught up in the daily struggles, and getting lost in everything is easy. This week, especially, it’s been tough to stay on track with all the noise and distractions. But let’s not forget that nothing will change if we don’t step back and look at what’s happening around us. Everything is clear. All you need to do is pause and look.

Please take a moment to think about our political landscape. How many people in power are there because they’re in the right place at the right time, not because they’re qualified? It’s a wake-up call! And while we’re pointing fingers, let’s not forget our responsibilities. Many come from backgrounds that have shaped us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t change the narrative.

Let’s talk about vulnerability and hardship. These issues aren’t new, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. The stereotypes we cling to, whether about our culture or challenges, need a refresh. It’s time to innovate and move beyond outdated labels. Enough of the empty rhetoric; let’s get to work!

As we enter this crucial election week, it’s vital to remember the power of our voices. Voting is not just a right; it’s a responsibility. It’s our chance to express our beliefs and values to stand up for what we think is right. But let’s not forget the importance of respecting differing opinions. Disagreement doesn’t have to lead to division. Instead, let’s foster dialogue and understanding because every voice shapes our collective future.

But with great power comes great responsibility. We must think carefully about this process, not just for ourselves but for future generations. Our choices today will shape everything we leave behind. So, please take this election seriously.

The truth is, we all know the reality of our situations, even if we sometimes pretend otherwise. The lines between right and wrong are clear, and it’s time we start using our brains to raise the truth instead of just taking in information passively.

So, let’s make a pact here to be more objective, rational, and mindful. Let’s not just sit behind our keyboards but step out and make a real difference. It’s time to take personal responsibility and actively shape the future.

Together, we will rise to the occasion. We will honor our duty as citizens, not just by voting, but by having meaningful conversations that uplift everyone. This is our moment to be patriots and to invest in a future we can all be proud of. Who’s with me?

Unfortunately, the First Past The Post ballot (which is also used in the U.S., Canada and England) only masquerades as true democracy. ? FPTP does seem to serve corporate lobbyists well, however. I believe it is why such powerful interests generally resist attempts at changing from FPTP to proportional representation electoral systems of governance, the latter which dilutes corporate influence. ? Low-representation FPTP-elected governments, in which a relatively small portion of the country's populace is actually electorally represented, are likely the easiest for lobbyists to manipulate or ‘buy’. ? Our (Canada’s) FPTP system is particularly non-democratic. It has on albeit-rare occasion resulted in majority governments elected by less than one fifth of eligible voters. You don't get that with PR-elected governances. ? It (FPTP) can and often enough does (at least here in Canada) enable the biggest of businesses to get unaccountably even bigger, defying the very spirit of government rules established to ensure healthy competition by limiting mass consolidation. .... ?
