Your Ultimate 2019 Goal Setting Cheat Sheet

The new year is finally here! There's a restlessness in the air as we are all revved up and refreshed from the holidays, frantically catching up on the (what feels like thousands) of emails. My social feeds are already overflowing with peers, colleagues, friends and families sharing their resolutions and goals for the year ahead. I shudder. I'm definitely not one for new years resolutions, and I find goal setting for an entire year an arduous task. I like to plan and goal-set in shorter spurts of 3 months so they feel more tactile and I have a clear vision on what I'm working on. Planning for a whole year felt too big since so much can happen and change, and I find resolutions are often forgotten, even with the best intentions.

However - this year is going to be different. Why? Because for the first time I have seen a goal setting format that makes sense to me and isn't razor focused on ONE thing. All thanks to Jen Atkin, an incredibly empowering entrepreneur & business woman. She recently shared an easy to follow, straightforward way how to map out your biggest goals that cover all aspects of your life. This feels balanced, logical and gives you more chances to succeed:

There you have it. A simple and succinct map to your dreams and aspirations as we take on the new year. Feel free to tweak the timelines and the categories that work best for you.

What do you do once you've completed this exercise? Remember to keep this list visible as much as possible. You've gone through the effort of putting ideas on to paper/tablet/computer - an achievement in itself! Now put it to work.

  • Print out your goals and place it on your desk at work, your fridge at home.
  • Do/share this with your partner, family member(s), mentor, manager or who ever you feel comfortable with to help hold you accountable.
  • Put a checkin place holder in your calendar 6 & 12 months down the line to revisit and write down what you have achieved and still working on.

Now, it's time to put my money where my mouth is. I have already started working on this, and my goal is to complete this exercise by Jan 6th!

2019 - let's do this!
