‘If Your Team Doesn’t Hear You, You’re Not Saying Anything’
Jonas P. Littman
Executive Coach | Leadership Circle coaching certified | Vistage CEO Peer Advisory Board Chair
Coach K, the legendary figure in Duke University coaching, advises against making assumptions. He emphasizes the importance of not presuming that the person you've communicated with comprehends your message entirely until there is tangible evidence that it has been received and, ideally, acted upon.
In the most recent episode of Chief Executive's Corporate Competitor Podcast, Coach K notes that leaders often fall into the trap of feeling overly busy, leading them to communicate hastily without verifying whether their team has fully grasped the message—a situation he considers as completing only half of the job. According to him, it is the responsibility of the person conveying the message to ensure it has been heard and understood as intended.
