Your superpowers
Think of a time when you did something you were really good at & also enjoyed.
Nice, isn’t it?
Whatever it was - cooking pancakes or saying a kind word - isn’t important. What is crucial, is that you were playing to your strengths &, as a result, getting positive feedback.
Now, consider how much of your working day are you playing to your strengths, rather than downplaying any weaknesses? To succeed at work, & most importantly, to enjoy it, aim to utilise your strengths for at least 70% of the day.
Next, take a moment & think. What are your strengths or superpowers?
Think of 3 things that you know you are really good at. Trust your instincts & write them down.
One of the most useful exercises I have done in the past year was to email 15 colleagues & friends to ask them what they thought my three superpowers were.
It feels like a very un-British exercise & I remember feeling somewhat unsure having pressed ‘send’. And yet, responses came through quickly & common themes easily emerged. Not only that people were more than happy to reflect on the positives, but my super powers also appeared.
So go on, put aside any fears & find out what your 3 superpowers are.
Be brave & curious.
