Will your strategy create value in 2021?

It has been a tough year for most businesses. Still, some were able to adjust pretty well and are confident that their updated strategy will continue to deliver value next year.

I invite you to take the opportunity during the final weeks of the year to reflect upon your 2020 strategy, what worked well, and what needs to be changed, stopped, or improved.

You might want to ask your team to do the same, share your reflections and use them as the basis for a strategy discussion in January.

Here are a couple of questions to spark and guide your thinking.

Thinking about your business in 2020

• How well did we manage to adjust our strategy and the organization to the new circumstances?
• Looking at the results: is our strategy really working?
• How well did our strategy work?
• What did work well?
• What needs to be reviewed?

Thinking about 2021 and beyond

• How confident am I about 2021? Are we fit for 2021?
• Are our business model, offering, ways of working and operating still fit for the current times?
• Do we have a clear idea about our ideal customer and their needs?
• Do we have a clear offering and value proposition? Do we know what our customers think about them?

How about your team?

• Can I (and my team) name the top 3 strategic priorities for 2021?
• How well can my team think strategically?
• Are we all aligned?

What about you personally?

• How satisfied am I with the results we achieved 2020?
• How proud am I of what we have achieved?
• Do our purpose, ambitions, and strategy still motivate me? Do they still feel like they are relevant? To me, our customers, and our ecosystem?
