Showing Some Love to Friends With Powerful Stories
Have you ever marveled at your friends and thought "wow, I know some very smart people." That's how I feel every time I hear one of my friends with expertise in something I'm still mastering.
This week I had the opportunity to hold a conversation with Porsché Mysticque Steele about using your assets and she totally flipped it around. Here's a quote from our chat:
"Your story is your asset, like in and of itself, your story is like your intellectual property."
Of course, it is! How simple is that!? When it comes to making an impact- your story IS part of the solution AND your intellectual property AT THE SAME TIME.
See what I mean, I have friends with very powerful messages to share. I'm excited to share them with YOU!
ICYMI- The Social Impact Level Up Collective will be LIVE Every Monday in February!
Don't risk missing experts geek out in their zone of genius. Each week we'll help you make a bigger impact simply by telling your story. In the last article, I shared the power of live streaming and how you can use this strategy to reach your supporters.
Now it's your turn to participate and get support! Every Monday this month at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook we're live streaming with marketing and branding experts.
On February 6th we kicked it off with my business bestie, Dimple Dang. If you missed that episode, you can check out the full replay here.
Don't Have Wonder Woman Syndrome
The most powerful piece of advice Dimple gave was not to try to do everything yourself- or have "Wonder Woman Syndrome". (This still applies to men too!) Sometimes I catch myself trying to do everything and I realize there's no way!
I invited my expert friends to highlight their work during the Uplevel Your Story Challenge because I recognized that I don't have all the answers. While I want to help people unlock their own stories, there are so many ways to approach that task.
Inviting Dimple, Porsché, Neshe', and Michelle to the party was a natural way to collaborate with some amazing women of color. On top of that, I've been looking for ways to connect the people in my network with others who they might resonate with. After booking all my guests, the first thing I did was send an introduction email to this amazing group of Wonder Women and invite them to connect with each other.
When we recognize the power of our collective impact, competition isn't a concern because everyone's talent is needed. That's what it means to break away from Wonder Woman Syndrome. So grateful these amazing thought leaders answered my call to action and are now sharing their superpowers with you.
Your Story + Your Wisdom = Your Impact
This week Porsché Mysticque Steele joined us all the way from Nigeria Monday morning and through the power of the internet, our chat was aired live on Monday night. The amount of knowledge Porsche dropped could not be stopped by pesky things like time zones.
I knew we could not let something as small as a minor time zone difference stop us from having this important conversation about using your story as an asset.
The most important part of that conversation was this simple equation Porsche shared at the top of the episode:
Your Story + Your Wisdom = Your Impact
It's such a super simple concept but full of truth. When you add the unique knowledge you have to your story, you can create impact using all kinds of assets. We talked about using your story in speeches, TedX talks, books, social media, and of course getting the right kind of funding.
Porsché reminds us that using our story isn't as simple as just writing a book or getting on a bunch of podcasts. You also have to be authentic, use the lessons you've learned, and package your message to share for other people's benefit, not your own.
Don't Compare- Elevate
Another very important lesson from Porsché was the reminder to get out of the imposter syndrome rut. You don't need to compare your story to anyone else's experience. Your experience is good enough. It's good enough to publish in a book. It's good enough to sell books.
You don't need to use other people's experiences to make an impact. Use your unique experience to stand out and inspire others.
This was such a beautiful message and a humbling reminder to all of us that comparing to others around you or leveraging traumatic events isn't the way to create impact. True impact comes from authenticity and connecting with your audience for their sake, not yours.

Can We Keep Leveling Up? Of Course, We Can!
These interviews have been magical discussions with some very intelligent friends. I'm excited to host two more fabulous entrepreneur friends over the next two weeks.
Don't miss out, Monday at 7:30 pm ET for the next 2 weeks we'll have more impact storytelling spotlights with marketing and branding experts.
