Are your staff friends with the people they support?

Are your staff friends with the people they support?

We are not friends, we are not family. No punches pulled – just the truth. Our interactive Mini Module ‘Boundaries, Paid Friends’ is four pages long and takes just 20 minutes to complete.

Your staff will learn that they can have a caring and friendly relationship with the people they support without blurring the boundaries. This excerpt might be hard for some disability support workers to watch:

About Mini Learning Modules:

The short video here excellently summaries why learning that as a support worker you are 'a friendly professional not a professional friend' is one of the most important lessons for paid and unpaid support staff to learn.

Living my authentic life and supporting others to be more aware of their self-care needs

Being honest with people you care for in your work is vital! Several years ago I had a support person in Victoria and I was told that due to “funding cuts” (pre NDIS) the company my worker was employed by had been severely strained by these cuts and my support person was leaving the organisation. 2 weeks later I was visiting a friend and their new support worker was due so I started to leave. Imagine my surprise when it was my former support worker still working for the same organisation. It took a long long time for me to trust support workers again. Just be honest, we are people with feelings #selfcarematters #nananellshandicrafts #positivepeoplepositivethoughtspositiveactions #supportingeachother

These modules made a big impact on paid staff. Very valuable information to be had and absorbed!
