Your Specific Story Matters

I wanted to share an excerpt from my upcoming book with Wiley about the importance of sharing your specific story. (Pre-order your copy here.)
Yes, I have been rejected many times in my life because I was told that my story was too "specific." It was hurtful to hear those words and at the same time I was frustrated thinking that my story didn't have the power to change the lives of people outside of my culture. I am glad to know now that this is not the case anymore.
Being able to see people from ALL walks of life pre-ordering this book is proof that my specific story does matter because it inspires them to share their specific story as well. When we continue to share our specific story, it becomes a domino effect that can create a new way of solving problems and unite each other as one.
One of my highlights this week is seeing my book being purchased at a Barnes & Noble, Inc. store on 5th Avenue in NYC. For me, that is HUGE considering I live in Toronto and never in a million years did I think this would ever happen in my life.
If I never shared my specific story, then this book would not exist. For far too long, Asian women are rarely seen in leadership roles, I want this book to be the start of seeing us as leaders and dismantle the negative stereotypes we still face today.
So please start sharing your specific story out there. Your story does have the power to change someone's life, even if it's only one person. There are too many people that I talk to who think their story doesn't matter. I am here to tell you it does and we need more diverse stories so we can learn from each other and work together to combat the problems we still face today.
Feel free to share your specific story in the comments. You never know who might be reading it or who it will impact today. And while you are still here, I have some upcoming events that you would be interested in attending:
