Car makers shift gear to privacy
Our cars have become smartphones on wheels, accumulating massive amounts of data about us. The automotive industry is rapidly evolving towards connected and smart vehicles, posing data privacy challenges for consumers.
While these innovations offer convenience and safety features, concerns about data sharing, consent transparency, and potential misuse by manufacturers persist. Regulators and industry standards are emerging to address these privacy issues.

The European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), in force since November 1, 2022, imposes rules on digital platform services to ensure fairness and contestability. It targets "gatekeepers" meeting specific criteria, including economic power and user reach. Non-compliance may result in fines up to 10% of annual turnover, increasing to 20% for repeat offenses.?
The European Commission enforces the DMA and can also impose structural remedies. Didomi offers compliance solutions, including consent management, for businesses subject to the DMA.
The Eastern High Court in Denmark has issued a ruling against the hotel chain Arp-Hansen, resulting in a fine of DKK1 million.
According to Director Cristina Angela Gulisano, the court's decision aligns closely with Datatilsynet's 2020 assessment, which had raised concerns about the company's failure to meet data erasure deadlines for around 500,000 customer profiles.
The National Security Agency (NSA) is establishing an AI security center to protect against AI-based threats and ensure the security of AI systems used by the government. The division will operate within the Cybersecurity Collaboration Center and collaborate with industry leaders, academic institutions, and international partners.?
Outgoing NSA Director General Paul Nakasone announced this move amid concerns about cyberattacks and the proliferation of AI technologies. The NSA's goal is to maintain AI security and facilitate the safe development and adoption of AI within national security systems.
