Your #SheridanLife Update: July 2024
July was a rewarding month for the Sheridan Student Union! From attending the CASA Poli-Strat 2024 conference to celebrating our diverse community at on-campus fairs and events, we’ve been all about making meaningful connections and finding new ways to support students at Sheridan.

Sheridan Student Union Executive Team & Board of Directors
Following the approval of our (CASA) Canadian Alliance of Student Association in June, SSU President Ganyo Soh attended the CASA Poli-Strat 2024 conference in the month of July where she joined other delegates from various Student Unions across Canada, collaborated and reviewed priority student issues that will be addressed at Parliament Hill during Advocacy week in November 2024.
“As a?member, this conference provided meaningful engagement and networking opportunities with other delegates discussing our plan of action of approaching the federal government that will impact the student community and their quality of life. As President of Sheridan Student Union, I look forward to lobbying at Parliament Hill for social change and justice for all students,” Ganyo shared.
Ganyo also had the opportunity to attend a Miri Piri Diwas event, hosted by the Sikh Students Association (SSA) , alongside SSU Board Member, Roopkomal Singh, and Board Co-Chairperson, Gulsher Cheema.
"Reflecting on our recent event, Miri Piri Diwas, I am reminded of the impact such gatherings have on our Sheridan community. This celebration honours Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s teachings on balancing worldly responsibilities and spiritual growth, symbolizing the diversity and unity we cherish at Sheridan. It reminds us of the importance of understanding and embracing different perspectives, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among our student body.
At Sheridan Student Union, events like this strengthen our community. They create spaces where every student feels valued and heard, encouraging us to engage in meaningful dialogues and celebrate our unique backgrounds. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event memorable." - Gulsher shared.

Sheridan Student Union Events
July marked the end of our regular summer programming. We hope our students had fun over the last few months, between our Movie Mondays, Wacky Wednesdays, Take a Trip Thursdays, and Friday Fun-days! We are super excited to work during August to make sure that what we have planned for September and the rest of the year is the best it can be for our Sheridan community.
Our off-campus “Take a Trip” adventures were so well-received this summer. With over 300 attendees in total, we hope our students are really enjoying these opportunities to explore the areas around where they live and go to school. More to come throughout the year!
Sheridan Student Union Clubs
We launched our new Adopt-A-Club program where students can restart clubs that are now frozen. This list of clubs also aids as an example of the different types of clubs we can offer.?The Clubs Department had our Summer Clubs Fair the first week of July. We had lots of our active clubs come out to promote themselves to students.?
We have 1 new prospective club this month:
4 New Clubs at Sheridan
1. Aeronautical Club (DAV): a student-led organization dedicated to fostering a passion for aeronautics among the Sheridan community. Our mission is to provide a platform for students to explore and expand their knowledge in the field of aeronautics, regardless of their academic background.
2. Epic Nights (DAV): This club is a student-led organization that creates a vibrant and inclusive environment for students to socialize, celebrate, and unwind. This club organizes a variety of events, including themed parties, dance nights, and cultural parties.
3. Canvas & Charcoal Club (DAV): The art club offers a creative environment for members to explore various mediums and techniques, with a particular emphasis on sketching. It's a place where sketching enthusiasts of all skill levels can come together practice and learn.
4. Sheridan Software Developers Club (Trafalgar): We're a community of passionate coders and tech enthusiasts dedicated to learning, sharing, and growing together. Sheridan Student Union Food Services
For the month of?July, our Food Services bar was open and we held a Customer Appreciation Day, offering $2 for a slice of cheese pizza and a pop! At Davis and HMC, we promoted Evelyn Almeida (Davis) and Cherry Lau (HMC) to Food and Beverage Assistant Managers, and hired two new Outlet Supervisors—one each for each campus!
Throughout?July, we focused on menu development, including training our supervisors on the new menu items. We also prepared most of the dishes, and the marketing team did a great job taking pictures of them. This was all part of our preparation for September.
We're proud of all the accomplishments achieved in July and the continuous efforts to enhance the #SheridanLife. Stay tuned for more exciting news and events in the coming months.
