January set the tone for an exciting year at the SSU! For Mental Wellness Month, we focused on supporting our community’s well-being at our first Community Fair of the year, connecting students with our SSU's Health and Dental Insurance, Peel Regional Police, City of Mississauga, and Roots Community Services. Events like Sexy Science Trivia and the Intimate Partner Violence Workshop brought awareness to cultivate thriving and informed relationships with ourselves and others. Our Sheridan Life Blog kicked off the year with valuable student insights, including reflections on How to Connect With Your True Values to Live a Wholesome Year.

The 2025/2026 SSU Board of Directors Elections are approaching quickly! To ensure the entire election process runs smoothly and fairly, the current SSU Board have formed an Elections Committee to review nomination forms.

Meet The Elections Committee:

The Board of Directors is successfully holding biweekly Board Meetings, reaffirming their commitment to bringing student issues and feedback to the Board table. Your Directors are happy to hear your feedback, challenges, and anything you'd like to see improved! Check the office hours at each campus and share your voice!

As we started a new year, our Executive Team focused on creating an atmosphere of reflection and support through various events and initiatives:

With over?60?participants in January, these conversations will help our team develop relevant advocacy programs for students.?

  • Another big highlight this month was the pop-up event The Power of Journaling: A Journey of Gratitude! Where the SSU Executive Team launched "My Gratitude Journal". Over 300 students joined this experience, exploring the perks of daily reflection and cultivating gratitude.

  • In collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Engagement and Education, our Executive Team hosted Indigenous entrepreneur Kendal Netmaker for a virtual event, part of the Reconciliation Series. Over 80 students attended to hear inspiring insights on Indigenous entrepreneurship, resilience, and reconciliation in business.

Sheridan Student Union Events

The year started with the right energy thanks to the SSU Events Team! January was full of excitement, self-awareness, and never-seen-before events!?The Events Team brought the first ever Wrestling Show at Sheridan thanks to the collaboration with Smash Wrestling! The lively matches kept students on the edge of their seats, and we can’t wait to bring this event back soon.

The events team brought us closer together this winter with more events like:

  • The Pool Tournament at Davis, which was the perfect excuse for students to relax and connect with their friends through a friendly pool competition. With over 45 students joining for a great night in the Davis community.
  • The annual SSU Raptors Night was also a great time! With a sold-out crowd cheering on the Raptors as they took down the Boston Celtics team.
  • The Latin Pub Night, where students and faculty members danced to the latest hits of Bad Bunny and iconic old-school bachata and reggaeton, free tacos included!

Sexual Health Awareness Week brought fun and educational opportunities for students to learn about their bodies and sexual health, exploring important discussions in a safe place.

  • From pop-up Trivia Tic Tac Toe at Trafalgar and HMC to the always popular Sexy Science Trivia, hosted by Eva Bloom, where students played, laughed, learned about themselves and won surprise prizes.
  • The Events Team also partnered with Peer Mentors for the Intimate Partner Violence Workshop, led by educator Nadine Thornhill. This session dived into relationship challenges, trauma-informed practices, and support resources.

Closing the month with the popular Desi Jam Event was the perfect way to bring students together to decompress, connect and dance the night away!

Sheridan Student Union Clubs

Our Clubs Coordinators started the year strong at Orientation and Bruno's Lounge events by supporting new students to integrate into our Sheridan community by joining new clubs on campus!
