Your Service - Our Commitment
Top 3 reasons veterans thrive at Pearce Renewables
Every year, approximately 200,000 men and women leave U.S. military service and return to civilian life. For those transitioning into the workforce, finding a job isn’t necessarily a challenge. In fact, in September 2023 the veteran unemployment rate was 3.6% , precisely the same as the comparable non-veteran unemployment rate. But finding the right job with the right employer who understands and supports the unique difficulties they face assimilating into civilian culture can be challenging.
What far too many employers don’t take into account is that military service is more than a job. It’s a way of life, a community, and a source of fulfillment and purpose. Transitioning to corporate work is a culture shift with a new vocabulary and expectations.
At Pearce Renewables we welcome veterans to our team. And, unlike companies that hire vets to meet diversity goals, our role as a veteran employer transcends far beyond the recruiting and hiring process. Supporting their transition from onboarding through the duration of their careers is a top priority.
This Veteran’s Day we honor the men and women who have transitioned from military service to join the Pearce Renewables family. With about 10% of our workforce self-identifying as veterans – compared to 5.6% of the total civilian workforce – The Pearce culture offers distinctive elements that make it a great place for veterans to build a career, including:
#1:? Uniquely aligned skill sets
Military service builds a plethora of skills that are highly valued in today’s fast-growing clean energy industry – from leadership and interpersonal experience to credentials that directly transfer and others with indirect compatibility.
Leadership & interpersonal skills
Across the board military service members, regardless of branch, possess common competencies that are highly valued and aligned to the demands of nearly any civilian industry or profession. Consider these:
Almost all jobs in the military have direct civilian counterparts. In fact, 80% of the jobs in the military are non-combat occupations . The men and women in these roles that are entering the civilian workforce are highly trained and career ready in many areas that align with Pearce’s needs, especially in operations and maintenance (O&M) roles. Take these Army jobs, for example:
The technical proficiency required for these military roles are highly transferable to the renewable energy sector. This talent is used to working with hand tools, power tools, test equipment, reading flow charts and more.
Compatible Skills
While other military jobs build skills that don’t directly transfer to the clean energy O&M workforce needs, they cultivate problem solving and strategic thinking capabilities that are highly valued at Pearce. Consider an infantryman. Trained to perform reconnaissance operations and lead an infantry team into combat and carry heavy equipment into battle across miles and miles, they’ve learned techniques and tactics that transfer to O&M roles. For example, having a strategic mindset and an ability to assess risks associated with each mission is critical to plan for all of the components needed to succeed.
The infantryman’s job description looks quite similar to that of an O&M outside field engineer: they both require outdoor work in uneven terrains and inclement weather, navigation, and being physically capable of climbing up structures or carrying at least 60 pounds.
Field artillery, air and missile defense and electronic warfare are a few other occupations with closely transferable skills.
#2: Authentically military friendly
At Pearce, we do more than say we are “Military Friendly”, we show it.
That authenticity is woven into our company values beginning with our approach to veteran recruitment, how we celebrate and recognize the contributions of our veteran employees, and how we provide resources to help them succeed.

Dedicated Veteran Ambassador
Frank Martinez, a veteran who served 17 years of active duty in the Army and 15 years in the Army Reserves, is the face of veteran recruitment at Pearce Renewables. As Veteran Ambassador and recruiter he plays a pivotal role in ensuring that veterans are not only aware of the opportunities available at Pearce but that they are also integrated seamlessly into our workforce.
After retiring from the Reserves a year and a half ago, he became Veteran Ambassador. In addition to attending dozens of military-specific hiring events, he networks with organizations and schools focused on training transitioning service members and veterans.
In his previous role in Operations, Frank learned firsthand that Pearce Renewable’s leadership is authentically military friendly through his personal journey. He received unwavering support from his supervisors as he straddled the demands of his job at Pearce while being called up to active duty and meeting the training requirements of the Army Reserves.
Military-Friendly Event and Recognition
This August, Frank inspired Pearce’s sponsorship of an Employer Support of Guard and Reserves event. At the event he presented the Secretary of Defense Patriot Award to his COO and long-term supporter Michael Wolf. This award recognizes and honors supervisors and managers who exemplify first-rate leadership for employees in the Reserves and the National Guard.
With leaders like Frank, military employees at Pearce receive superior support.
Veterans’ Employee Resource Group
There are many military advocates at Pearce. Kyle Williams, a Marine veteran and Pearce SVP of Solar O&M, EV & ESS, is pioneering a new Veterans’ Employee Resource Group (ERG). This internal committee kicks off this November and aims to connect our veteran employees with all the resources they need to thrive in their civilian roles at Pearce.
#3: People-first culture
Veterans find Pearce to be a natural, cultural fit.
In similar fashion to the military, world-class safety permeates Pearce Renewable’s culture. We’ve developed and vigorously enforced comprehensive workplace safety practices to ensure a safe work environment for our team members, the public, and the environment.
Training is a top priority too, with state-of-the-art training centers and a Mobile University designed to keep our teams up to speed on the latest innovations. Team members are also recognized and incentivized for seeking professional growth and responsibility.
In 2022 Pearce was recognized in Comparably's annual ranking of companies with the Happiest Employees. The award was rated on a combination of factors that contribute to happiness at work including positive environment, fair pay, great benefits, excitement about work and co-workers, clear company goals and investment in them, and pride in company.
Through the Pearce Proud online employee recognition platform managers reward and acknowledge outstanding work in the field.
Uniquely aligned skills, authentically military-friendly and a people-first culture – three reasons why veterans are finding post-service career success at Pearce.
