Is your SENCO alone in a crowd?

It’s a tough time to be a SENCO, never has there been more pressure to be well informed, organised and creative. A good SENCO offers professional support, is a key communicator and a hub around which hugely important decisions turn. Further, the recent reforms make it more important for school leaders and SENCOs to involve and include the child and the parents in identifying and forming and understanding of needs and goals for the future. Very often the SENCO is in the position of supporting and advising both staff and parents about the best way forward. A heavy and potentially isolating load. The consultancy work I do offers specialist support and advice to the SENCO. A support group is great and a network of colleagues essential but other SENCOs face the same heavy work load and cannot necessarily respond immediately. At Senworks, SENCOs are the priority. Does your SENCO need some support?
