YOUR SALES MOT - FRONT VIEW NOT REAR VIEW
Andrew Hough FF.ISP,Cranfield Lecturer
Building the most trusted sales teams in the world, and enabling their development through choice of deliberate learning.
Trust is crucial to selling. A buyer who can be sure that a salesperson is being straight with them is more likely to relax, engage with the process, and buy.
Historically, your customers will see what you were like after the event, but that rear view applies to their experience of you and does not help you in future relationships as you progress the sales and prospecting highway.
What if Customers Could Look Forward to their experience with you?
How do people you will meet on that highway – your future prospects and customers – get the comfort that you are trustworthy, skilled and will give them a positive experience?
Why should they get in the car and go down the road with you? Because, if you are ethical, have a growth mind set, and a desire to improve your skills, you will able to show clear evidence of that through your sales qualifications.
Before they get in your car and go on a buying journey with you, they will be able to inspect your professionalism, just as you would make sure your car was roadworthy, taxed, MOT’d and insured. Now it is possible to show customers and employers your professional sales credentials.
With the Association of Professional Sales (APS), the world’s most recognised sales body, with more than 50 global brands as members, you can show your MOT sales equivalent:
1 Your ethical selling knowledge – APS registered professional
2 Your customer certification – APS customer certified
3 Your development – APS certified professional
4 Your other qualifications – APS Foundation Degree and Degree
APS sales qualifications are not easy to get. Fail rates are built in to make sure standards are high, but many drivers fail their test first time, but go on to be flawless drivers, the APS helps those with the right mind set learn and develop.
What sales reps worry about most is how they are perceived, those immediate barriers they face just for being a seller. At a first meeting, a buyer can be defensive and even suspicious, just by being in the same room as you, the salesperson.
My Professional Knowledge – MOT!
But that first meeting is not the time to show you have passed your test and that your car is roadworthy. It is important to differentiate yourself well before, when your customer is starting on their sales journey. If your customer has to ask you whether you are up to the job, it’s too late.
With the APS you can be ahead of the game.
The Association of Professional Sales has developed Professional Registration in order to help sales professionals assess themselves against an ethical code and consequently differentiate themselves to those who don’t care about the importance of ethics in sales. Professional Registration is:
- Open source and available to anyone who values ethical selling
- Publicly available to anyone who wishes to see if their suppliers value ethical selling
- Supplied by the Association of Professional Sales and monitored by our members, customers and partners
- Quality controlled by the APS Quality Assurance system, ensuring rigour, robustness and validity.
The cost for this is just £55 + vat and your certification valid for 2 years. It is a 40 minute exam with around 35 questions, each license entitles the user to three attempts at the registration.
Display the professional registration logo on your LinkedIn profile, email footers and business cards to… differentiate yourself as an ethical sales professional.
