Is Your Resume AI-Ready?

Your resume is a story. A marketing pitch. A first impression. In today’s world of AI algorithms and resume “black holes,” how do you stand out and get that audience with a human?

At Elentic , Lay Taylor and Keith F. share insider tips to help you turn your resume into a marketing tool and ace your interviews.

The Resume: Your First Chance to Shine

AI algorithms often filter resumes before a human even sees them. Your goal? Get into the top 100 resumes reviewed by a person. From there, hiring managers may talk to 10 candidates and hire one.

Lay’s advice: “Your resume is a marketing pitch, not your life story. It’s about showing how you’re the best fit for the job you’re applying for.”

Here’s how to craft a resume that stands out:

  1. Tailor Your Story: Customize your resume for the job description. Highlight what you did, not just what your team accomplished.
  2. Use Keywords: Tune your resume to match the job posting to pass AI filters.
  3. Show Impact: Include stats to convey complexity and risk—like stakeholders you worked with or metrics you improved.
  4. Keep It Clean: An error-free, easy-to-read, and aesthetically pleasing resume makes hiring managers spend more time reviewing it.
  5. Write a Career Summary: A concise summary at the top gives hiring managers a snapshot of your story and value.

"Your resume should solve a hiring manager’s problem—make it easy for them to see why you’re the perfect fit," Keith adds.

The Interview: Your Chance to Connect

Once your resume gets you in the door, how do you nail the interview? Lay and Keith offer these tips:

  • Research First: Learn about the company, the role, and the people interviewing you.
  • Tell Your Story: Tie your experience to the job description. Even if your background is unique, show how it applies to their needs.
  • Be Specific: Share concrete examples of problems you solved, the stakeholders you worked with, and the results you delivered.
  • Take Notes: During the interview, jot down key points to follow up on.
  • Follow Up: Send a thoughtful email to thank the interviewer and reinforce your interest.

Keith emphasizes: “Interest is always good—when done right. Show that you’re engaged and enthusiastic, but also professional.”

A Marketing Story with Integrity

Your resume and interview are your first chances to make an impression. Lay and Keith stress the importance of authenticity:

  • Be honest about your experience.
  • Curate and translate your story for the job you want.
  • Show that you’re easy to work with by presenting a polished, concise, and well-organized resume.

"Market yourself with honesty and integrity. Hiring managers value authenticity and a clear, compelling story," says Lay.
