YOUR REAL NAME

Genesis 32:24-29

"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

"And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him...

"And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

"And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

"... And he blessed him there."

LESSON:

Jacob had lived all his life as a suplanter. He fooled his brother, Esaw and got his birthright. He fooled his father, Isaac who blessed him instead of his twin brother. He fooled his father in-law and got away with it.

But he was unable to fool God. He had a battle with God's Angel who touched "the hollow of his thigh".

The Angel asked him the same question his father posed to him years back. He lied to his father but spoke the truth here. "What is thy name?". Jacob, he replied. That was really who he was and that was a new beginning for Jacob. Suddenly, the Angel announced to Jacob his new name - Israel. He also blessed him.

Do you want a new beginning too? Do you want a new life full of God's blessings? Then, you need to confess to God who you really are just like Jacob, a supplanter. You can fool everyone but not God.

Jesus wants to touch your whole life and not just your thigh. He wants to change you and bless you as well.

PRAYER LINE:

Confess who you really are to God. Ask Him for a new beginning.
