With winter coming, you've packed your bags and are ready to set off on a three month tour to chase the warmer weather - everything is fine and your home is insured; or is it?
Did you know that depending on your policy, leaving your home vacant or unoccupied from 30-60+ days may cause you to be excluded from coverage?
Other situations such as moving from your location for renovations, or moving an elderly parent out of their home and into your location may also inadvertently lead you to become victim of vacancy or unoccupancy exclusions. Even stopping by the location periodically during renovation may not be sufficient for your policy to remain enforceable.
In many of these cases, damage caused by vandalism or burglary may be excluded under your policy.
Even worse, a criminal could break in, injure themselves, and sue YOU without coverage!
Before leaving your home unattended for any extended period of time, it is important to review your coverage and evaluate risk management with your broker.
