Your Project Management Sucks

Most people don’t even know what project management is.? I didn’t know what it was, when I coordinated a surprise birthday party for my mother or organized a girls’ vacation with a complete itinerary that I was doing project management in my everyday life.? However, a project is just a temporary venture taken on to create unique products, services, or results.? The result I wanted for my mother’s surprise birthday party was to have great food, games and out of town guests.? Now for my girls’ trip, I just wanted us to have a good time without having to think about what we will do next.? Nevertheless, I know you have planned a social event like a party or a group vacation before.? That’s project management!!
Now, let’s get into project management at work.? A project at work usually is bound by time and a certain set of resources.? This project will entail achieving some kind of business goal for example; to increase sales, to decrease delivery time, or to improve employee morale.? In regardless, starting a project is not just having a goal and executing it.? It takes initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling and closing out a project.?
So, if your company is implementing a new product, service, initiative, or new software without a plan then, your project management sucks.? If you are relying on the training team to train people on the changes from the project, then your project management really sucks.? Why would you overburden the training department?? Now, if you don’t have a clue how much time or resources i.e. money it will take to implement the change from the project, then your project management absolutely sucks.? Then, if you don’t have a team to initiate, plan, execute, monitor/control and close out a project, your project management positively sucks.? Finally, if your project creates more problems and issues than the one problem it was supposed to solve, then your project management super-duper sucks.
Don’t be sad, there is still time to fix your project management in your large company, so you will stop wasting time and resources being unproductive.? Yet, you should never execute a business goal without a plan and a team in place to execute that plan.?
