Your professional learning support for Term 3 awaits!
Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership (AITSL)
We're committed to improving teacher expertise. Our focus: Initial Teacher Education | Teaching | School Leadership
We’re now into the second half of the year, embracing all that Term 3 has to offer. We are here to inspire and support your professional learning this term and beyond with tools and resources that are flexible, relevant and future-focused.
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Teacher Standards) are the bedrock of the work we do at AITSL and the reference point for the tools and resources we develop. Understanding how your current practice aligns with the Teacher Standards will help you to focus on key areas of development and enable you to get the full benefit of the available resources.
In this edition of AITSL Mail, we offer tools and resources to support your professional learning – in ways that work for you.?
Warm regards,
Acting CEO, AITSL
Which stage of the professional learning cycle are you in??
Now that we are halfway through the year, you may be taking some time to reassess your 2024 professional learning goals. Our High-Quality Professional Learning (HQPL) cycle provides a template to plot your learning and ensure you get the most out of it.
If you are in Stage 1 and need to identify your professional learning needs, try the Teacher Self-Assessment Tool . Join over 200,000 teachers to determine where your teaching practice sits against the Teacher Standards and access targeted resources to help you set and achieve your goals.
If you want help in Stage 2, try the HQPL Toolkit . This interactive tool will help you build a professional learning plan to take you through the rest of 2024.

Have your say on Mentoring Guidelines?
AITSL has drafted Mentoring Guidelines to help teachers who are supporting pre-service and early career teachers.
The guidelines are based on advice from expert practitioners and current research, and we need your help to make sure they are useful, relevant, and appropriate to the profession.
We encourage all teachers – or anyone interested in mentoring pre-service or early career teachers – to review the draft guidelines and provide feedback via the online survey.
Completing the survey will take about 10 – 15 minutes. It closes 5pm Wednesday 21 August 2024.
Collaborate in Reconciliation
Following NAIDOC Week earlier this month, continue your reconciliation journey with the help of our Collaborate in Reconciliation resource.?? ?
Developed in collaboration with Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali program and their evaluation partners at the Australian National University’s Centre for Social Research, this publication contains a wealth of evidence-based information to help you better understand how to progress reconciliation actions in your school or classroom.? ?
The resource explores the benefits of reconciliation activities for students, teachers and other staff, school communities, and the broader community and identifies the significant role early learning services, schools and the education sector more broadly will continue to play in progressing reconciliation into the future.??
