Is your productivity stressing you out?

I'm a sucker for doing more than one thing at once and I'm really good at it.

Efficient AF one might say.

Organisations value it as productivity.

But what if it's your productivity stressing you out? Causing strain in your relationships?

As an example, this morning I went to cook my breakfast (3 eggs + water, scrambled, with some sliced spring onions if you're curious) and when I opened the fridge I saw some chicken and beef there that I had bought to cook up a couple of batches of whatever.

?

Suddenly my thoughts went to 'ooh, I can do all of that while I'm cooking my breakfast, do it all at the same time, that will save time and I'll be all set for the week'.

?

And sure I could have.

?

But what went from a five minute cooking up some eggs and having five minutes to sit down and eat breakfast consciously, very quickly turned into a sense of rushing around prepping meals, eating my breakfast while standing over the stove, hollering at the kids 'have you sorted this and that' for school.?

?

And of course the rise in overwhelm in my chest that came with that 'efficiency and productiveness' as cortisol flooded my system.

?

Tuning into my body via interoception, I noticed that feeling in my chest and I stopped.

?

Recognised what was happening, what my conditioning was telling me I should do.

?

Had a gentle word with the part of me that said I should be 'efficient', 'productive'. Decided to do one thing.

?

Overwhelm in my chest drained away.

?

Cooked my eggs.

?

Had a lovely breakfast with my butt on the chair.

?

Got the kids out of the door calm as a freakin' cucumber. Relationships all in tact.

?

I'm not saying don't be productive or efficient.

Perhaps take a look at whether you NEED to be productive or efficient in that moment if it's going to send you down the path of feeling overwhelmed and stressed. How might feeling stressed and overwhelmed might impact your relationships?

Staying in low level fight or flight and?nervous system dysregulation means you can be acting from a place of stress and overwhelm. Productive, efficient - but are you at your best? Are you well?

By uncovering conditioning, belief systems and raising awareness of what's going on in your body and shifting the stuff that keeps you stuck in overwhelm and stress?means you're are able to perform to a?higher level, communicate better, experience more life satisfaction and get ill less.

So tune into your body - what sensations do you notice? Tune into what your conditioning might be telling you. From there make your empowered decision.
