Remember the last time you met someone new, and they treated your request like it was a royal decree? Yes, me neither.
?
In both our personal lives and professional careers, we often encounter situations where we need others to prioritize our concerns as highly as their own. Whether it's a project deadline, a family need, or a personal favor, making your priority someone else’s can be challenging but achievable with the right approach.
?
1)?The who : Do enough research to know about the person and background so that you understand his/her challenges, constraints, limitations etc and his/her perspectives . This in turn will help you articulate your problem statement in a manner that’s most relevant
2)?The Why: Have a transparent communication, explaining the urgency in a very simple , straightforward communication style. Please try and keep away from jargons
3)?Common Ground : Clarify how solving this problem statement will positively impact you both and how it aligns with his/her goals
4)?Genuine Connect : Try to establish a genuine relationship by understanding their work & asking the right questions . Acknowledge the demands on his/her time and resources while making your request
5)?What’s in it for them : Make it clear as to what he/she gains from prioritizing your work. Whether it’s direct benefits, mutual interests, or potential future collaborations, ensure he/she see the value in supporting you
