Raising children today is not the same as it was back in the day.
With all the new technology and changes in how kids learn, this checklist helps parents get ready for what their kids need in today's world.
It's about adapting and making sure they're set up for success in a more modern and connected environment. So here's a checklist for you to ensure a smooth transition to Primary 1.
- Positive Attitude: Encourage a positive mindset by highlighting the exciting aspects of primary school. Talk about all the fun stuff they will do in Primary school. Discuss the new opportunities for learning and making friends.
- Independence: Encourage independence in daily tasks such as wearing uniforms, packing bags, and managing personal belongings.?
- Social Skills: Foster social skills by organizing playdates with future classmates, promoting teamwork and cooperation.?
- Communication: Teach your child to express their needs, ask for help, and communicate with teachers and classmates.
- School Route: Familiarize your child with the route to and from school, even if you’re sending them to school or via school bus. Unexpected events can happen. So be prepared.?
- Open Communication: Maintain open communication with your child. Address any concerns or fears they may have about starting primary school.
- Designated Study Area: Set up a quiet and organized study area at home to facilitate homework and study sessions.?
- Establish Routine: Introduce a daily routine that includes designated study time, playtime, and rest.?
- Parent-Teacher Communication: Familiarize yourself with the school's communication channels and stay in touch with teachers.
- Participate in School Activities: Attend parent-teacher meetings, school events, and engage in school activities to stay involved in your child's education.
Hope this helps!
