Your Practical Intro To Coaching - Part 3 What Would Be Your Perfect Scenario
Brian Canavan
Life and Career Coaching to help you go from Confusion, Stress, Boredom & Frustration to Clarity, Fulfilment, Happiness, & Success.
In Parts 1 & 2 of our Practical Intro To Coaching, we looked at what area of your life or career needed to change and in some detail about what needed to change.
In Part 2 I asked you to write a positive statement of what that would look like, and in this section we're going to explore that a bit more deeply.
If you haven't done Part 1 & 2 you can pop back to my article list and do those now.
Your Ideal Scenario
"If you don't have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true"
Let's expand on your ideal scenario for whatever area of your life you decide you want to change.
These questions are specifically designed to help you get a better picture of what your ideal is in more detail. This, in turn, will help you know what you are willing to accept in life and what you are not.
This also helps your Reticular Activation System (RAS) we discussed before to look for ways to achieve what you want.
Quick Rules of the Game
Try to do this reasonably quickly and don't worry about the how for now. We'll come to that very soon.
You can have this however you want.
There are no limits
Forget the how
Everything is possible
Act as if no one will care what you want in any negative way
You can have whatever it is you want even if its a bit naughty.
Powerful Questions to Ask Yourself:
Imagining your ideal scenario for the area of life you have chosen and answer the following questions:
(Remember to use your journal to record all your answers.)
Your Ideal Environment
What kind of environment will you be in?
What will this look like?
Is it a bright modern office, or perhaps a new home in its own land with water running by?
Or maybe it's working from home in a garden office with all the latest technology making life easy.
Whatever it is go into details as far as you can. Some people even make up a vision board for what this will look like.
Your Ideal Activities?
What will you be doing in this ideal scenario?
Are you being creative or managing a team? Or perhaps both?
What would your daily or weekly routine look like?
Or perhaps you decided you hate routine and want adventure. What would that look like?
Who Do You Let Into Your Ideal Scenario?

Remember, this is your ideal, and we do have choices about what we are willing to accept in our lives. This goes for the kind of people you let into your dream scenario too.
Who are these people?
Employees, or partners?
What skills do they have that complement yours?
What kind of relationship do you have with them? Familial or professional. Perhaps even both?
Is it a small group, or a large one?
Or are you on your own?
Your Ideal You?
These are possibly, the most important questions in this whole exercise.
Who do you want, and need to be, to get your ideal scenario?
What will you be like in your ideal scenario?
Will you be calm?
Organised?
Will you be living with your own personal values? What are your personal values that you hold dearest?
Do you need to be assertive?
More confident?
Or a great communicator?
Do you have to be disciplined in your focus, or perhaps more relaxed?
What personal sacrifices are you willing to make to get there?
Finally, What's it All About?
These questions will help you see what motivates you, and can help to remind you why you keep going if things get tough.
What is this all for?
What are you hoping to achieve here?
Who are you helping apart from yourself?
What do you want to feel?
Wrap Up for Part 3
I've found this exercise gives my clients and me a clearer vision of what they want life to be like.
It's all to easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day dramas and crises and never take the time to refocus. That's what these questions are designed to do; refocus you on WHAT YOU REALLY WANT from life.
Now that you have this vision for your change we'll start to look at how to make this happen in PART 4 next.
As always if you have any questions please ask in the comments or message me.
