Your Power To Influence

Do you remember the last time you tried to influence someone in their decision?
In my last podcast episode (Permission to Chill: Vacation Inner Critic Edition ) I was trying to convince my listeners that it’s OKAY and even necessary to take vacation. We all have an innate ability to make our case, just look at your own life examples.??
When you are in roles of great responsibility and power, the stakes are a bit higher when trying to influence change and new decisions. I was reminded of that with a recent opportunity that came about. A young woman in HR believed that their workforce would benefit from learning how our inner critics can hold us back from personal and professional growth.
Bringing in a speaker to talk about our inner critics - which basically is about how we deal with our FEELINGS - was met with resistance on many fronts.??But this BRAVE and COURAGEOUS woman stood tall and navigated many obstacles. She was an advocate for her employees, for her own beliefs and for a better future. She also had another wing woman by her side?supporting ?her along the way. And guess what?? She got her initiative through, and I spoke at her event.
I share this story for a few reasons: The first is because I know that the reason it's possible for me to do the work I believe in is because there are advocates that believe in it as much as I do.?
Who is making it possible for you to do what you do?Have you thanked them lately??
The second reason I share is because influencing change is about playing the long game. I hope you are giving yourself the credit you deserve for the changes you are working on – be that in how you are parenting your kids, how you are choosing new ways to show up for yourself, challenging the status quo at work or driving social change.?If you are looking for permission to pause and celebrate, let this be your sign.
Summer can be a time for reflection, re-calibration and rest (aka?vacation ). I hope that in this mix, you are also taking time to celebrate the change you are igniting within yourself?and?the spaces you enter. The work is worth it, and you are appreciated – even if no one has told you lately. My friend had a line she used to use with her boyfriend, and I’ll use it here with you:
“I appreciate you, even when others don’t”. ;)

Recent political happenings sure makes this feel especially relevant right now. If you want to inquire about bringing this to your team or organization, message or email me at [email protected]!
