Is your posture aggravating your knee pain??
Do your knees hurt when you sit, stand or walk?
In this video, yoga teacher Catherine Carrigan explains how your posture may be making your knee pain worse.
Did you know:
1. That the position of your feet controls the position of your hips?
If your feet are out off kilter, your hips will be out of alignment.
If your hips are out of alignment your knees will suffer.
2. That if your feet are rolling out - also known as supination - there may be too much pressure on the outside of your knees.
Here’s the way to understand supination.
When one or both of your feet roll outward, they look like they could hold a bowl of soup.
Too much pressure on the outside of your knees can cause the tendons and ligaments to tear, the connective tissue inside the knees to become inflamed or the muscles to track improperly when you are squatting, bending or sitting.
3. That if your feet are rolling in - also known as pronation - there may be too much pressure on the inside of your knees.
Many people’s knees roll inwards when they squat, causing a major imbalance in the knee joint as well as the quadriceps muscles.
Look in a mirror when you perform a squat and observe what your knees are doing.?
A simple way to understand what’s happening with your feet - and therefore the uneven pressure you’ve been placing on your hips and knees - is to look at the soles of a pair of your old shoes.
Observe the places where your shoes are worn down.
By looking at the bottom of a pair of your oldest shoes you can easily see the long-term effects of poor posture.
Whether you have ripped your anterior crucial ligament (ACL), a critical ligament inside your knee, or any other ligament or tendon, torn the meniscus, the wedge shaped cartilage that acts as a shock absorber,??or are simply suffering from arthritis in your knees, you may be shocked to discover how correcting your posture may instantly and easily relieve pain that you have been suffering from even for years.
Watch this video and assess your own posture.

Ask yourself these questions:
When I stand are my feet underneath my hip bones and pointed straight ahead?
Do my feet roll out (supinate)?
Do my feet roll in (pronate)?
Are my hips even when I stand??
Am I placing an even weight on both feet or do I favor one side over the other?
The definition of good posture is the place in space where you are most biomechanically efficient.
