Your Podcast Marketing Strategy Is Outdated...

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening Thought Leaders!

Big news... we've reached 600 newsletter subscribers! So for the people who haven't met me yet, hi! ??

Find out a bit more about me and what we do here.

As we know a big part of Thought Leadership is getting your message out there, and a great way to do that is by having a podcast ???

In today's edition, we're podcasting strategies, and seeing which are the most effective.

The Regular Strategies:

1. Telling your friends

  • Yes, this may give your podcast an initial boost, but this is a limited resource! You only have so many friends and so many times to ask them until they start to find it annoying!

2. Posting Half-Heartedly On Social Media

  • Posting "When you feel like it" or "When you remember" will get you a few listeners, but nowhere near the amount you need to grow the podcast substantially.

3. Podcast Promotion Agencies:

  • Despite the initial allure, podcast promotion agencies have fallen short in delivering substantial increases in audience numbers, with suspicions of potential bot-generated engagements.

Strategies Worth a Shot:

1. Leveraging High Virality Social Media Platforms:

  • This is a great top-of-funnel marketing method that brings in a great listenership and acts as the foundation for an efficient podcasting strategy. It also allows you to have access to a wider audience of people that have never heard of you before.

2. SEO - Search Engine Optimization:

  • An absolute game-changer. Load your episode titles and descriptions with keywords so that your show pops up whenever someone searches for a podcast on that topic. Good content + SEO = Visibility.

3. Proper Hashtags:

  • Harness the power of hashtags to boost your podcast's discoverability. Strategic use of relevant hashtags can significantly enhance your reach.

4. Networking with Fellow Podcasters:

  • Building connections within the podcasting community can open doors to collaboration, cross-promotion, and shared audiences.

5. Rock-Solid Content + Short Form Content:

  • Nothing beats great content. Ensure your episodes are well-discussed, well-produced, and boast excellent audio quality. Experiment with short-form content too, catering to the modern listener's time constraints.

6. Power of PR:

  • In a surprising twist, some podcasters have explored Public Relations (PR). Collaborating with non-specialized PR agencies, podcasters gained features in reputable publications like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, and Inc. The impact was more than just a surge in listenership; doing this also elevated the podcast's credibility, making it easier to attract high-profile guests, thus attracting more attention and growing the influence of the podcast.

Experiment, Adapt, Succeed

When it comes to choosing the best marketing strategy and promotion, sometimes the best way is to experiment, adapt, and succeed.

However, it's also valuable to analyse numbers and learn from others to avoid spending time, energy and resources on strategies that clearly don't work.

I hope that you resonated with some of these points!

Till next time Thought Leaders ??
