Your Personal Brand - Why You Need One & What It Can Do For You

Who are you? REALLY?
Who do your prospects think you are?
What do they think you do?
How do they think you can help them?
How are you showing up on LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram?
How are you showing up in emails and messages?
Are you showing up the same way, consistently and constantly across platforms?
Or are you showing up as Frankenstein some days, Wonder Woman other days, or sometimes a brain-eating alien, Spiderman, a crazy cat lady…
OR…
Do you sometimes turn into a ghost, do your disappearing act and not show up at all?
Whether you like it or not, you’ve created a brand, or an image for yourself.
To quote Jeff Bezos, founder & CEO of Amazon…
“Branding is what people say about you when you are not in the room.”
If they’re not saying anything about you…
That’s your brand.
Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. Zilch.
Why Is Your Personal Brand So Important?
To become a leader, you need to brand yourself, NOT your company.
People join people… not companies!
You know this is true because you’ve seen it over and over again in the network marketing industry (if you been in it for any length of time).
A big leader moves from one company to another and takes basically their whole team with them.
Why? Because their downline didn’t really care that much about the company and the particular opportunity. They were, and still are, following the leader.
Richie Norton defines Personal Brand as…
“Everything that you are, plus everything people believe you to be.”
The purpose of branding yourself is to help people discover YOU!
If you’re using you’re network marketing company’s brand as your “own”…
First of all, it’s NEVER yours.
And secondly, you’re helping people find your company. Not YOU!!!
Plus, your personal brand will outlast whatever opportunity you’re in right now.
You can change companies and opportunities and still maintain a person brand that moves with you.
Your personal brand helps people find you online.
And let’s face it…
Today, if you don’t have a powerful online presence – a virtual reality – for all intents and purposes you don’t have an actual reality – a position of authority, competence, a trust factor, which all equates to a thriving business.
How Can You Begin To Brand Yourself?
Check out this video and read more below.
STEP 1. Know Yourself.
What are your unique qualities, skills, talents?
In what areas of your business are you an “expert”? Or do you feel you can develop expertise?
Who is the REAL you?
What do you love about yourself?
NOTE: This isn’t obnoxious and self-centered. If you don’t honestly love yourself and respect yourself you’re never going to be able to truly step into the roll of a leader.
I know sometimes it can be difficult to come up with these things about ourselves so here’s an idea.
TIP: Ask 5 friends to come up with their top five words to describe you. Or ask them to list what they feel are your three strongest qualities.
STEP 2. What Are Your Values?
What are your priorities?
What do you stand for?
What’s most important to you in your life?
What are you trying to create for yourself? Time freedom, so you can travel with your partner/spouse? A legacy for your grandchildren? The ability to work from home so you can be there to raise your children and participate in the milestones in their lives?
STEP 3. What Are You Passionate About?
What area of your business are you truly passionate about? And why?
Are you passionate about brain health because you’ve had a family experience with Alzheimer’s?
Are you passionate about weight loss because of your own personal struggle and journey?
Are you passionate about business and helping people become successful?
Or maybe you have a passion for giving back in some particular way.
STEP 4. Who Is Your Target Audience?
Who do you want to help and serve?
I’m not talking about creating an avatar. Frankly, I don’t believe in avatars. (But that’s a whole other topic that you can read about here.)
Let’s say your company has a product that enhances brain health. You could say that everyone has a brain, so everyone needs your product.
Yes, but not everyone WANTS your product. And not everyone can afford your product.
Not everyone is your target audience!
AND…
Be careful not to cut out potentially very valuable prospects by being too niche. For example, just because you might be a home-school mom, doesn’t mean you should just target moms who home-school their kids.
STEP 5. What Do You Want Your Prospect To Know About You?
How can you let your prospect know exactly how you’re going to help them in everything you do?
What exactly is the overarching message you want to be constantly delivering to your prospect?
STEP 6. Create A Tagline
Create a phrase or a statement that lets your prospect know what you do and how you help them.
Here are some examples:
Eric Worre – Network Marketing Pro
Marie Forleo – An entrepreneur, writer, philanthropist & unshakable optimist dedicated to helping you become the person you most want to be.
Ted McGrath – Message To Millions – How To Spread Your Life Story And Message To Millions While Making A Massive Impact
Bob Proctor (The Proctor Gallagher Institute) – Tell Us What You Want And We Will Show You How To Get It – Paradigm Shift
STEP 7. Create Your Brand Identity
Your Brand Identity is how you appear visually.
It’s an important part of your personal brand, but it’s not your brand.
After you’ve identified your personal brand, you can really strengthen your brand and your prospect’s ability to remember you and find you by having a consistent look and feel to everything you put online.
This includes:
· Having professional photos that you use consistently on social media, in your signature block in emails, etc.
· Having a logo that clearly identifies you, and using this logo on social media, on landing pages, sales pages, and emails
· Having a color scheme that carries through from your social media banners, to your website, blog, and your emails/signature block
· Having a set of fonts that you use consistently across all platforms.
This is a way to simplify your marketing and create a recognizable brand your prospects will remember.
