Anyway, that's enough about us. Without further ado, let's get into the topic you're here for!

Welcome To The Impactful Influencer Newsletter

Today we're going to focus on your personal brand strategy for 2025.

Whether your goal is to launch a business that’s all about you, or you're looking to pivot, reposition or grow a business that you’ve established already, your personal brand must be strong if you are to achieve the success you deserve.

This is not an option or "nice to have" for you as a business owner today. If you view it as such, the result is inevitable: your business will fall short of its potential.

A strong personal brand transcends your business brand and lives on for decades. It works like an insurance policy against redundancy, business failure or all of the ups and downs of life.

It enables you to reveal yourself in your most vibrant and powerful form - and control the narrative, rather than other people's opinions of you being the dominant voice in your market.

"How can I create a strong and compelling brand that opens doors to the right opportunities?" is therefore a question most of my subscribers will be asking themselves.

The development of a personal brand should never be a vanity exercise, with you as your biggest fan.

It has to achieve results and get those high value deals and clients coming to you.

Let's now dive in to understand the importance of a personal brand and how you can develop yours for success in 2025.

The challenge of visibility and trust?

Millions of professionals and industry experts are now vying for attention across a similar niche. To rise above the noise you need a power personal brand.

A power personal brand is results driven, dynamic and trust-driven. It consists of three elements:

  • Visibility
  • Credibility
  • Authority

Visibility

Let's look first at visibility and how to stand out above that sea of noise.

As an expert in your space, the worst thing you can do is post inconsistency and erratically.

The social media algorithms love consistency. The reward dwell time, in other words, how much and how often you engage with their platforms.

Show Up Consistently And Your "Dwell Time" Will Be Rewarded

If you post once a week, at a random time, for example, your content will get shown to less people than if you post more frequently and at the same time.

It's also important to engage with comments, and like and share other people's content too.

When it comes to social media: more is always better, with a simple caveat: only if it's good.

Of course, you probably don't want to spend all your time posting and dreaming up content topics, so if social media is "not your thing" you may it helpful to either learn or hire someone to repurpose your content and make it go further.

Personally, I keep a folder on my phone and recycle old posts that performed particularly well when I'm short on time.

Don't take the obvious shortcut of relying on ChatGPT exclusively - those AI formulated posts are still below par when it comes to great content and will hinder rather than help the development of your personal brand.

I use ChatGPT as most of us do - but only to generate ideas, conduct research and provide content structure - I do all the writing and editing myself.

Also - make sure you have a library of professional looking images of yourself to draw on.

Either get a brand photographer to take some for you, or perfect the art of selfies (if you're getting started and your budget is super stretched).

Put effort into a polished, professional look and remember - no-one cares if your images are 3 years old - they're not for a dating site after all!

Credibility

Credibility means: are you believable? Are you someone who has walked the walk rather than just talked the talk?

Don't miss out on the opportunity to talk about your personal experience: your lessons, fails and triumphs.

People who follow you will love the unfolding of their relationship with you. It's exactly the same as developing intimacy with someone in real life.

Don't Just Talk About Your Business - Reveal The Real YOU!

People buy into people, and they don't just want to know you are competent in that area that matters to them.

They want to know who YOU are.

Are you someone they would enjoy chatting to over dinner? Are you someone who consistently has something new and interesting to say?

Do you have some great stories? Do you hang out with some fun people and go to interesting places?

What have you done in your life (and not done, but plan to do next?)

People always love a success story, so when you share your fails make sure it ends on a high - even if it's just "lesson learned" (which is extremely valuable and also courageous - most people infinitely prefer an honest try-er rather than an arrogant know-it-all).

Of course credibility also requires data, statistics and social proof. Specificity to back up claims works a treat with cold audiences (people who are discovering you for the first time).

Authority

There are two forms of authority when it comes to personal brand:

  • Authority By Association
  • Intrinsic Authority

Authority By Association is a powerful tool. It gives your personal brand gloss or the halo effect, as it's known.

We humans are a social species and this form of authority is also why we form tribes/gangs/families/communities etc.

We know we are judged by the quality of the company we keep, and can rise or fall through it.

This also explains, by the way, why spousal or intimate partner abuse remains such a taboo topic, as authority by association can also work in the opposite way - shame by association (otherwise known as carried shame).

Promote Your Connections, Your Activity And Your Experience

When we are seen to associate with (for example) powerful industry influencers or thought leaders in our space we experience a powerful halo effect and the perception of our value increases.

Broadcasting this is not showing off; it is a substantial investment into your own success.

Intrinsic Authority, on the other hand, is the amplification of your personal and thought leadership, as well as talent.

If you are by nature more of a follower rather than a leader, you only have two choices if you want to elevate your intrinsic authority: you either learn and perfect your personal leadership skills (a task that is not easy or a one-off by any means) - or you use a proven framework and shortcut for success.

We offer all of these (and more) within our popular Ideal Client Success Programme, which, as mentioned earlier, is for independent experts and service based business owners who want to rapidly accelerate their success.

You Need To Be Discovered Through Search

Possessing the right skillset and experience is not enough today. If people cannot search for and experience your value in advance of engaging with you in person, they will go elsewhere.

It helps to have a strong and engaging website and use SEO (search engine optimisation) to make you discoverable for people who are actively looking for help in the area you specialise in.

A Poor Personal Brand Creates Problems

A personal brand that is poorly thought through and communicated can lead to several problems:

Missed opportunities: Clients, key partners and/or investors prioritise their efforts towards those they know, like and trust. This begins with you commanding their attention. Unless you can do this quickly and effectively, they will bypass you for your rivals.

Lack of credibility: If you don’t know how to showcase your expertise, and provide proof of the results you have achieved, people will doubt your ability, even if you are better qualified than others who do something similar.

Difficulties in growing your network: Professional networking is based on personal trust and esteem. A strong personal brand will put you in a prime position to engage with the most influential leaders in your field, whereas a poorly constructed and ineffective one will make you look unprofessional and amateurish.

Always Remember: Your Network Is Your Net Worth

More Ways To Build Your Personal Brand

1. Define Your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)

The UVP is the cornerstone of your personal brand. It defines what differentiates you from others and why the audience chooses you and not them. Ask yourself:?

  • What skills and experience do I possess?
  • What problems am I solving for my audience?
  • How do I add value differently from others in my area?
  • What layers of specificity can I introduce (in other words, can I hyper-niche)?

A strong UVP provides clarity and helps you articulate your strengths, whilst narrowing your area of focus. This is necessary for success.

For example:

Elon Musk built his personal brand on innovation and disruption. His UVP is not ambiguous: he is the creator of futuristic technologies that have changed industries (Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink).?

His brand messaging has remained consistent across all social media platforms and public appearances and has built him one of the strongest personal brand identities in the world.

2. Build Your Online Presence

You are who Google says you are, and your online presence is your digital CV. Without an impressive online presence, your chances of being noticed by future clients, employers or industry influencers are slim to nil.

Key areas to focus on include:

LinkedIn:

  • Use a professional photo and an engaging tagline.
  • Have a keyword-rich summary representing your expertise.
  • Regularly post insights, case studies, and articles (like this!).
  • Engage with others – after all LinkedIn is a SOCIAL platform, so like, share and comment on others posts, while responding to their comments on yours.

Personal Website:

  • Have case studies, testimonials, and professional accomplishments on display.
  • Optimise your website for SEO to enhance search engine visibility.

Social Media Presence:

  • Engage in industry conversations on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Share useful insights related to your area of expertise.
  • Produce and repurpose video and audio content, rippling it across multiple platforms to amplify your impact and get the attention you deserve.?

Audio and video content have been proven to get more engagement than the written word, which is why it is helpful to leverage those formats if you can.

3. Create High-Value Content

Content marketing serves as both a powerful and helpful tool for personal branding.?

Sharing relevant insights positions you as an expert in your area of expertise. It is also important to stand FOR and AGAINST certain issues that affect your industry.?

“Vanilla” is dull - and people want to align with like-minded others. This is why it is important to be outspoken and bold at times.

Effective content formats for personal branding include:

  • Blog posts and articles: Write about topics relevant to the industry and engage with proven SEO practices.
  • Videos and Podcasts: Generate discussions in terms of education or sources of inspiration.
  • Case Studies and Whitepapers: Provides data rich analysis showcasing your expertise.

Video And Audio Content Is A Powerful Way To Stand Out

Example:

Rand Fishkin, the founder of Moz, built a strong personal brand by publishing SEO guides, case studies, and tutorials time and again. This was all part of his content marketing, gaining him recognition as an authority on SEO (search engine optimisation).

4. Interact With Your Community

You can make great headway in developing as a personal brand through interacting within your own industry.?

Building a network is not just about working with or selling people; it requires active engagement and the provision of value.

How to get networking right:

  • Join online discussions on relevant platforms and in industry-specific groups.
  • Comment on LinkedIn posts, contributing your opinion and engaging in talks.
  • Attend conferences and other events to build a relationship with influencers and professionals in real life.

5. Use Guest Posting and PR.

When reputable websites or other people’s content features you, the credibility you receive is a boost to your personal brand. Studies show that people who regularly leverage the platforms and audiences of others brands gain 67% more engagements on average when compared to those who don’t.

Guest Posting and PR Is Effective For Personal Brand Building

Some excellent platforms for guest posting include:

  • Forbes, Entrepreneur, and Inc.: get featured in thought leadership articles.
  • Blogs in specific niches: achieve niche expertise and credibility.
  • Podcasts and webinars – to reveal your knowledge during an interview.

Example:

Researcher, author and speaker Brené Brown, whose Ted Talk, The Power Of Vulnerability, remains one of the most watched of all time, developed her personal brand through guest spots on TED Talks, podcasts, and popular publications in her niche.

This helped her grow her business as one of the foremost leadership, personal development and corporate coaches in the world.

6. Monitor and Improve Your Brand Reputation

Your brand is a dynamic and evolving entity that must be audited, monitored and improved on a regular basis.

It is not enough just to produce and distribute content- it must be tracked and measured with analytics.

All the social media platforms enable you to do this, so that you can see what type of content the algorithms respond to.

When you post on social media you are “building your house on rented land” – in other words what you think is a brilliant piece of business content may gain very little traction, whereas one that is more personal may go viral.

This is why it is important to take your audience off social media and into your own world – which means capturing their email address through some valuable freebie that they will sign up for.

This enables you to communicate with them more freely. You can control who your content is shared with, and your audience will only unsubscribe to your mailing list if they feel your content is irrelevant to their needs.?

Best tools to monitor reputation:

  • Google Alerts: Get Alerts When Your Name Comes Up Online.
  • Brand Yourself—improve your Google search results for your name.
  • Hootsuite: Track and analyse your social media performance.
  • Built in analytics on the social media platforms themselves.

Monitoring brand mentions can enhance your reputation and address any negative feedback.

Conclusion

A personal brand strategy is not optional in today’s busy online environment; your business demands one.

Your online presence and reputation shape how others perceive you in a digital world that's growing stronger by the day.

When you enter the world of personal branding for the first time, it can feel confusing and overwhelming.?

However, rising to the challenge and learning the right skillset will bring you not just a sense of accomplishment - but also tangible success.

If you have spent your career in corporate or the public sector, your personal brand will have been unimportant compared to the brand of the organisation you were working for.

It can feel like a big change to make yourself the focus of attention, and this requires a mindset as well as a skillset shift.

Especially when you are on a limited budget, and do not have a team, you have to pick your strategies and F.O.C.U.S? - follow one course until successful.

I have successfully implemented personal brand strategies for clients across London, New York, and Chicago, establishing a strong and authoritative presence for them, that has generated the powerful growth that they sought.

My team and I will help you define your unique value proposition, optimise your online presence, create quality content, and establish a brand that attracts exactly the right opportunities for you.?
