Run your own business (24%)

Starting, running, and scaling a business is tough, I am sure you have heard (or tried). But, it is more accessible than ever and, with the right help, it is pretty simple. To start, people often lack self-belief and experience. Like Jay Shetty says, "you aren’t unqualified to do what you desire, you are inexperienced," yet somehow the world makes us feel like it can’t happen to us (or it is self-inflicted). The only way to increase your self-belief is to gain experience, but the only way to gain experience is to believe. Hence, there is no chicken or egg here,?you must believe?to begin your journey. Therefore, in order to believe you must address what is holding you back…?

I believed in Feb 2017, so much that I quit my job at Goldman Sachs a year after being sent to Poland on a Short Term Assignment and being promoted to Associate. Crazy, right? My friends, family and colleagues all thought the same, too. In the short term, it was the worst decision I ever made (keep reading as to why) and long term, it was the best one ever! In that year, I set up an Operations Consulting company, made around £25k (great for first year), learned to close new clients and was asked to become the COO of a start up that I had been consulting for. Looking back, I wished that I stuck to my own business, without being excited at the prospect of being a COO in a new start up, because ultimately that did not work out and it led me back to employment for 3 additional years due to my savings being completely wiped. It was a major set back for me to begin with, but as I rebuilt my finances and mindset, it again was an experience that I needed! I am now out of employment again and I am more stable than ever financially, in my mind and I have the patience to slowly grow my business for the long term, without making rash or poor short term decisions. So, another skill you will need to learn quickly is what I call P&P… Patience and Perseverance. You must have the patience to gain experience and persevere with self-belief. It all ties together in the end as you learn these lessons.?

So, for someone starting their own business, start today. Do not start tomorrow, do not sit writing some crazy business plan that you found online, do not listen to anyone else (unless they did it themselves) and just START. What I mean by "just START" is:

  • Just pick the product you believe in and find out how to sell it on Amazon, stop trying to find the perfect one, just give it a go and learn the process. There will be more products and opportunities as you learn / gain experience.
  • Start your own consulting firm if you are amazing at what you do and want to give it your own shot. Finding clients is easy after you find one, rinse and repeat.?Applying what you currently do to a business is the easiest transition.
  • Start your brand, just start with one product and learn how to best engage your market. Then scale.?

In short, the key point is, you must take action to gain experience and grow your business, it won’t work straight away. It is very likely to feel like you failed many times, but as long as you don’t give up, you didn’t fail. In the coming weeks, I will be launching a course to teach you how to start your own business (consulting and product) and I will be on hand to help you out every step of the way, so do send me an email if you want to receive an email when its available ([email protected]).

Find your dream job (24%)

I spent a long time trying to find my dream job. Worked in 3 Investment Banks, hoping to find an area of the business that would allow me to express my entrepreneurial desires, as well as learn and grow in something new. For the most part, I achieved those things, but I always felt empty financially as it did not compare to my dreams, I was not growing at a fast pace and often my enjoyment at work was directly linked to my management team. Although I left Goldman Sachs to run my own business, looking back, it was by FAR the closest experience that I have ever had to exploring my entrepreneurial flare and being in an environment where I could grow. Ultimately, my advice here is that if you are in a job that allows you to explore your passions, you feel like you are growing, then you are probably in the right place. If you are not getting this feeling, then move asap. If finances are making you want to move job, I will say that making money is done elsewhere, never expect your job to give you the financial freedom you desire. I will come onto making money elsewhere a little further down this blog. However, if you are underpaid compared to market, there are ways to get yourself up to a good level.?

I have met a lot of people who are unable to move job, they are afraid. I do not blame them, nobody gets taught how to move job, negotiate a better salary or move industries entirely, we just get told to get a job in order to be safe. Plus, when family is involved, it is a huge risk to just move from a stable job. If you want to find your dream job, there are a few things you can do to get there:

1) Rebuild your CV, directly targeted towards the job you wish to find

  • Apply the skills you have to skills required
  • Understand how your experience can benefit your dream job – read the job specifications and think about it
  • Believe that you can do it and don’t stop until you get it

2) Use my 5 proud moments tip for interviews and writing your CV

  • Write 5 experiences you have had in your career and experience that you are most proud of
  • Write down which skills you displayed during those experiences that apply to the job you are applying for e.g. team work
  • When you are asked questions in interviews, like tell me a time you worked as a team, you can automatically link team work to one of your experiences and describe it. Much better than waffling.?
  • If you are still stuck, reach out to me. I run a company called?www.careervive.com ?(website is currently being upgraded) and I have been helping people rebuild their CV, prepare for interviews, negotiate better salaries (one person got a £20k pay rise!) and start their own side hustle throughout the pandemic since November 2019. I have helped hundreds of people and I only desire to help more!?

Learn to invest for income (38%)

Back in September/October 2020, I turned £14,000 into £100,000+ by December. I then got into Crypto in January, with ridiculous returns. There is a lot to say about learning to invest for income, because I have been practising trading for over 10 years and, year after year, I have had my ass handed to me. Until the most recent year.?

After succeeding in trading, I learned everything I was doing right and everything I was doing wrong. Please drop me an email at?[email protected] ?if you would like to learn how to trade. I will be teaching everything from which exchange to use, different markets (FX, Stocks, Crypto), how to analyse charts, where to invest, take profits often, create income and hopefully, give you the skills to grow your own savings. As an example, I trade for income (tax free) and make 1.5k more per month than my last job. You can do this on the side of your job, it doesn’t have to be full time and that is the beauty of it. So, if you want a second income stream, this is the PERFECT place to start. Note: you can also lose money, just like investing in a business. So, you must be prepared to persevere with trading to succeed and accept that loss is part of the process. The?art?is to make more than you lose and NOT to lose nothing at all.?

Personal development/Mindset (14%)

Law of attraction, manifestation, I am sure you have heard it by now. However, there are too many people consistently manifesting poor things to their life. Let’s take this blog as an example.

  • 24% of people want to find their dream job, I wonder how many of you take no action, tell yourself you cant do it or give up after rejection
  • 24% of people want to run their own business, I wonder how many of you take no action, tell yourself you cant do it or give up after a set back (think about my set back, I can guarantee most people would go back to employment and stay there! I refused to believe that my journey was over and it led me to more experience and success than I would have otherwise have). Business is the LONG game.
  • 38% of people want to learn to trade for income, you get the picture… you don’t have to risk it all when trading, but surely taking a leap of faith is worth it if you can find success in it.?
  • 14% wish to focus on mindset. As you will have seen throughout this blog, mindset is everywhere! Patience, perseverance, self belief and gaining experience... it all links back to how you think about the world. Mind set is the ultimate skill to unlock the rest, so again, I encourage you to reach out if you seek any of these improvements in your life.

Drop me an email [email protected] and I will add you to my mail list when my courses are ready. Also, let me know what you are interested in because, as I build my course, I will be happy to include things to help you (as I am sure others will want to know, too).
