Becoming UnBlocked

Becoming UnBlocked

Psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich stated:

"People tend to remain sick (or blocked) because they continue to find the same wrong solutions to the problems they hope to change".?

Welcome back to another episode of The Plastic Human where today we are taking an investigative look into understanding where our wrong solutions actually come from...and why we still use them to tackle our current problems that keep us staying blocked.

As the end of the year clock is ticking, (and I reflect on all the problems I didn’t manage to get solved this year…), there really is no better time to indulge in this conversation.

Today we are diving into:

  1. How and where we pick up our ‘wrong solutions’
  2. Why we apply them to our 'current problems'
  3. How your biology gets in the way of letting you see what is actually happening, and what you can do about that, today

To do that I'm going to share a more personal story into my childhood that demonstrates how I picked up some wrong solutions, applied them to my problems that kept me blocked for most of my youth. I hope this helps you reflect on your own journeys, no matter what it may have been, to find clues into the areas you may be struggling with, personally or professionally.

Here’s some needed background:

I’m going to share with you a challenge of mine that started when I was the ripe old age of 7.

Side note: The age of 7 is an important year. Ages 0-7 are known as the ‘hypnotic years’ or the ‘programming years’. This is the time the brain spends most of its energy alternating between Alpha and Theta states. These are the same states that come online when we are in hypnosis or deep meditation. Dr. Bruce Lipton, seasoned cell biologist and author of ‘The Biology of Belief’ states that (paraphrased a bit),

“The first seven years are foundational to obtaining your future goals and perceived limitations... this age bracket stores 95% of the programming that you will live with for the rest of your life.”

Rearing the end of this age for me, marked the time when I moved from Trinidad to Canada.

Attending my first day of school in my new country signalled right away that I was different. I was a small, skinny, seemingly ‘white’ kid with a very thick Trinidadian accent, pink glasses, and unruly brushed out curly hair with hand me down clothes from my much older and much bigger cousins.

Tremendous.

Most of the other kids didn’t believe I was Trinidadian. In their world view people from the Islands should have darker skin.

I obviously didn’t get that memo.

And so started the decline of my social order in a very awkward form of backwards racism. From then on I would have a super hard time ‘fitting in’, being accepted in the classroom, and eventually that would lead into... bullying.

How we pick up our 'wrong solutions':

Growing up in Trinidad was a very different social-political structure than my new home. One of the main differences that Trinidad had, that Canada didn’t, was an accepted and very legal physical disciplinarian culture.

Simply meaning, kids got hit with no real regulation on the degree - by parents, teachers, relatives, close neighbours...etc. The logic was that pain led to correction of unwanted behaviour and everyone in the community was responsible for the behavioural correction of children.

Side note: This was balanced with a culture of light heartedness, fun, lots of humour and many caring, loving people. As contradictory as this sounds, cultures are seldom simple. Rather they are complex and filled with many social contradictions. So I don’t share this to judge on it, I share it simply to give context into my experience.

As a kid I was conditioned to have a deep reverence for authority and social order. It was embedded inside of my conditioning that being respectful was key to staying within behavioural boundaries. It was a highly mannered system. I learned how to be very sensitive to what other people got offended by – because respect and offence was one in the same. If I didn’t become acutely aware of how people were feeling, that meant trouble.

What helps you in one culture/environment though, can set you back in others.

Moving to Canada meant that all of the things I learned in order to feel safe no longer applied.

In 1971, about 20 years before I moved to Canada, the Toronto Board of Education abolished ‘corporal punishment’ from the school system. Simply meaning, teachers couldn’t physically hit kids as a form of punishment and stated that parents were the only disciplinarians for children (however with tons of regulations around that).?

Now I had to find my own way to work out my own problems in the classroom. And I had 0 tools in my toolkit to do it. What I did have was residual imminent fear that if I offended anyone, I would get disciplined.

So when the bullying started (the problem), the stored information that was programmed into my subconscious was yelling at me to not do anything to disturb the order (this became my 'wrong solution' to the problem). And the trauma of being physically punished in my past meant that I would shut down, without the ability to resolve the bullying that was going on outside of me.

Basically my wrong solution to the current problem was to do nothing.

But in fact doing nothing was doing something pretty major according to my brain and neurology.

My programming was instructing me to do 3 things:

1) not be mean

2) not answer back

3) not hurt anyone

These were not values - these were programs. Programs that were installed in its formative years when to do any of those things meant getting physically punished. So the program was a protection designed to help keep me safe.

Only now, this programming was accepting other people's misbehaviour and allowing them to continue it.

The behaviour I needed to apply in order to update the program were to:

1) Be aware of what was happening (wasn't)

2) Know that I was safe (didn't)

3) Have a new experience (couldn't)

These are not intuitive behaviours as they move away from how the body designs it's safety protocol. What these behaviours are however, are conscious tools of neurological correction - and they have to be learned. They do not come innate inside of us.

Why we apply our 'wrong solutions' to our current problems:

Children and adults behave the same after the programming years.

Our brains hold instruction for how to navigate and move through our environments. We all have different programs installed based on our own unique learning histories (life experience). Because of this:

Our problems are the direct matches to the flawed solutions we have learned.

So then to fix the problem we just need to find the flaw in our solution and fix that, correct?

How your biology gets in the way of letting you see what is actually happening, fully.

Your problem can’t go away if you aren’t able to see what you are doing ‘wrong’ in order to modify the behaviour and ultimately fix the problem.

But your Psyche doesn't like to go there. It will do everything in its power to avoid having to look at what you are doing 'wrong' or changing your programmed 'wrong solution'.

Why?

Because what you are doing 'wrong' or the 'wrong solution' you are applying to the problem at hand, is what your brain thinks is actually 'protecting you'. And if the brain thinks you are being protected by a certain act, it is not going to change it.

See the conflict?

Many of our current day problems are reflections of the solutions we learned in the past, and often at very young ages. Sometimes it is buried into events that we don’t even know to look at, or have long forgotten about.

But once you understand how the process works, it becomes very easy to find the connection and update your program which will eventually render you, UnBlocked.

Too many of us struggle with the same things, silently.

This is why I specifically created the course, UnBlocked.

A process that helps people to go through the necessary training of unlearning past programming that predetermines their unique formula for success or lack of. This process unwinds what the exact 'wrong solution' you are using to combat your problems that are keeping you blocked.

These are the core tools that will help you remove the 'noise' and get right with your life, personally or professionally.

Do you know the wrong solutions you’re bringing to your current problems that keeps them continuing?

If you don’t take a look below to see how I may help.

Until then I hope I’ve given you enough to think on and evaluate for yourself so that you can hit the ground running in 2022 with those updated solutions that finally put an end to the challenges that you might be facing today.

So true that we spend the rest of our life trying to fix the programs we embedded in the first years. The most common problem with seeing the programs is that very often we start the analysis and see them with the eyes of the program itself and so remain stuck in the same old circle. Who is trying to fix what? Fixing the blocks requires a deep dive into who we are with no judgement so that we allow them to run in the open of our consciousness which is free from beliefs (biases) and that will hurt but will show... being open to pain, allows vulnerability to be accepted as the strenght that allows to see and the program deprogram itself the very moment it is seen. Your presence Kira is precious and your articles are a reminder to us that we do have challenges but also that these can be overcome if we committ ourselves to that. Much love and energy to you to continue to spread the rising of awareness.
