Your past doesn't define your future

The past few weeks have been filled with reflection and celebration for me. Not only did I celebrate my birthday??, stepping into another year of life with gratitude and excitement, but I also had a moment of deep reflection. It's been 27 years since my father's decision to end his life, a pivotal moment that has undoubtedly shaped my journey.

His choice deeply influenced my path, reminding me that our past shapes but does not define us.

A Journey Back to University

My recent visit to the Erasmus University, where I was interviewed for its 110th-anniversary documentary, was a full-circle moment. It was a time to reflect on how my academic foundation was solid yet lacked a critical component: self-knowledge.

Key Lessons on My Path

Through my journey, I've discovered lessons I wish I could have shared with my younger self, and now, I want to share them with you:

1. You are not your patterns. Just like me, you might find that you're operating on autopilot based on past experiences. Recognise these patterns, and understand they can be changed.
2. Challenge your limiting beliefs. Those stories you tell yourself about not being good enough? They're just narratives. It's time to rewrite them.
3. Identify and understand your triggers. What sets off your stress or anxiety? Understanding this is the first step to regaining control over your reactions and emotions.
4. Embrace the possibility of change. Change is not only possible; it's within your reach. It starts with the willingness to look inward and ask the tough questions.
