Note: Today, Gloria is passing the mic (or the mouse) to Felicia Davis, Take The Lead Leadership Ambassador extraordinaire, and founder of the Black Women’s Collective.
Felicia had the great idea of honoring Take The Lead’s reason for being at our August 25/26 Power Up Conference and Concert — that’s YOU. You are the women and some men who have participated in 50 Women Can Change the World cohorts, taken a 9 Leadership Power tools course or workshop, served as a Leadership Ambassador, or otherwise benefitted from our transformational programs. Here’s Felicia…
Imagine a world where every woman embraces her inner Wonder Woman. That’s the vision we’re bringing to life with Take The Lead’s Inaugural 9 Leadership Power Tools Champion Awards!
Speaking of Wonder Woman, did you know that Lynda Carter, the iconic actor who brought this super-heroine to life on screen, will be receiving our Leading Woman Award at the concert on Sunday evening, August 25? You definitely want to be there!
Just as the character of Wonder Woman inspired generations of girls and women to believe in their own strength and power, you too have the power to inspire and lead.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Together We Lead.” You may recall that Gloria defines a leader as someone who gets stuff done. That surely describes you.
Many of you have shared the profound impact Take The Lead’s programs have had on your leadership journeys. Your stories are inspiring! We encourage you to step into your power and be recognized for your leadership by nominating yourself or one of your colleagues for the 9 Leadership Power Tools Champion Awards!
If you have participated in any Take The Lead programs these past 10 years, don’t miss this chance to be part of and recognized at the 10-Year Anniversary Power Up Conference and Concert in Washington DC.
We know it’s often challenging for women to self-advocate. So here are four reasons to self-nominate.
Why Self-Nominate?
1. Embrace Your Worth: Remember, if you don’t toot your own horn, there’s no music. Power Tool #2 reminds us to “Define your own terms first, before someone else does.” By nominating yourself, you’re taking control of your narrative, just as Wonder Woman defined her own path.
2. Inspire Others: Your story could be the catalyst someone else needs to take their next big step. As Power Tool #8 says, “Employ every medium,” — your nomination could be that medium for change.
3. Gain Recognition: Stand tall in your accomplishments. Power Tool #3 encourages us to “Use what you’ve got.” Your unique experiences and achievements are valuable — showcase them! They are your story (Power Tool #9, “Tell your story”).
4. Network and Grow: Becoming a Power Tools Champion opens doors to new connections and opportunities. It’s all about Power Tool #6: “Wear the shirt of your convictions.” And Power Tool #7 shows you how to act on those convictions and “Create a movement.” Show who you are, proudly and the world will respond in kind.
Get Ready to Celebrate and Be Celebrated!
Winners will be honored and share the stage with influential speakers at the Power Up Conference and Concert on August 25th and 26th in Washington D.C., coinciding with Women’s Equality Day and Take The Lead’s 10-Year Anniversary! What better way to celebrate such a historic moment?
How to Nominate Yourself — or Your Peer:
OK, so you still might not be convinced to nominate yourself. Remember you can also nominate someone else who participated in a Take The Lead program. Or do both! Here are some tips to get you started:
1. Reflect on the Journey: Think about how you or they have used the 9 Leadership Power Tools in life and career growth.
2. Gather Achievements: List concrete examples of leadership impact.
3. Craft the Story: Write a compelling narrative that showcases your/their use of the Power Tools.
4. Submit with Confidence: Use Power Tool #2 and “Define your own terms” as you fill out the nomination form.
Remember, “No” is just an invitation to a conversation. If you’re hesitating, that’s your cue to lean in and nominate yourself or someone else who has been through a Take The Lead program. As Power Tool #9 reminds us, “Tell your story.”
Ready to take the leap? Click here to start your nomination process.
Let’s celebrate your leadership, inspire others to rise, and make Women’s Equality Day truly meaningful. You’ve got this! And I’ll be there to celebrate right with you.
I can’t wait to read your nomination and to honor 10 of you extraordinary leaders and changemakers on August 25/26!
Powerfully yours,
Felicia Davis Take The Lead Leadership Ambassador CEO, Brand Strategist & Founder Black Women’s Collective?
P.S. Nominations close on Friday, July 5th. There will be prizes as well as recognition on the stage. Nominate yourself or another Take The Lead participant you admire today!
