The boardroom was quiet as the director of the nonprofit gave her quarterly report. She had good news and bad news to share with the board. The good news was that they had managed to secure another large grant from the government. However, she warned the board that they needed to be careful about how they spent the money. The nonprofit had a reputation for being wasteful and only doing the bare necessity for the money, and she didn't want that to reflect poorly on them or her organization.
The board members were silent as they considered her words. Finally, one of them spoke up. "Do you think we're spending too much on low-energy substances?" he asked.
The director was taken aback by the question. She had no idea what he was talking about. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"You know," he said. "We've been spending a lot on things like coffee and energy drinks. I don't think those are healthy for us."
