Your office 365 Email backups aren't enough
Are your Office 365 Email backups enough?
If I asked you ‘do you have control over your Email data?’ you’d probably say yes. It seems simple, Microsoft takes care of it right? Well, kind of. Microsoft’s focus is mainly on managing the infrastructure and ensuring up time to users. They put the onus of responsibility of data on you – which is why you need to start looking at more measures when it comes to protecting your Email data.
Microsoft gives you 30-90 days to recover any lost information, however a report by IBM found that the average time to detect and contain a data breach is 280 days1, this means that it’s likely you won’t notice something is missing or gone until it’s too late.?What Microsoft Office 365 offers is called geo redundancy, this is often mistaken for a back up. So what’s the difference?
Back up
A back up is a historical copy of data that is made and then stored in a different location, you can still directly access and control the backup. This means that if the original data is lost you can speedily recover it.
Geo redundancy
Geo-redundancy is the distribution of mission-critical components or infrastructures, such as servers, across multiple data centers that reside in different geographic locations.
