New South Wales (NSW) has changed how it considers occupations in demand.

New South Wales (NSW) is shaking things up when it comes to skilled migration. Instead of using a list of specific job categories from the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO), they're now focusing on key sectors that really need skilled workers.

So, what's the big change?

Before, NSW had a list of specific ANZSCO jobs to decide who could migrate for work. Now, they're looking more at sectors that urgently need skilled people.

Here are the sectors NSW is focusing on:

  • Health: They need more healthcare pros and support teams.
  • Education: More teachers and support staff are needed for the growing number of students.
  • Tech (ICT): With tech booming in NSW, they need more hands on deck.
  • Infrastructure: Theyre looking for folks in construction and engineering to help the state grow.
  • Agriculture: Skilled workers are needed in farming, a big part of NSWs economy.

Even though these sectors are the main focus, if you're super skilled in another area, you might still have a shot. But, with so many people wanting to migrate and limited spots, its a good idea to look at all your options.

Now, about the NSW Occupation List Skilled Invitation Rounds:

  • Theyll keep happening throughout the year, but theres no set schedule.
  • NSW will look at things like your skills, how well you speak English, and your work experience when picking people. If youre in one of the priority sectors, youve got a better chance.
  • Just remember, getting an invite from NSW is totally up to them.
  • The date you apply doesnt affect your chances. And heads up, invites for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) start next week.

Lastly, even with this new focus, NSW still cares a lot about growing its regions. They said they were still working on helping regional businesses in NSW find the right talent. More info will come out once we've sorted through last year's applications.

Stay tuned!
