Over nine weeks, you’ll:
- Understand the fundamental concepts in psychometrics, as applied to educational assessment.
- Learn how to interpret typical analyses and undertake such analyses yourself using realistic assessment data.
- Evaluate assessment quality using classical item-level statistics.
- Understand the features of classical statistics and their limitations.
- Understand item response theory and how it differs from classical test theory.
- Define equating and understand how items are calibrated in the applied context of item banking.

Using assessment data to empower practice
By the end of the three sessions you will have:
- Understood the purposes and uses of assessment data, and key terminology in schools
- Interpreted common outputs from assessments, and considered how they can inform practice
- Discovered some of the statistics that can tell us more about assessments themselves, such as facility values, discrimination indices and reliability coefficients
- Used your knowledge and understanding of assessment data to identify impactful ways to positively influence your school or institution

Writing and evaluating effective multiple-choice question
By the end of the three sessions you will have:
- Gained an understanding of the relationship between the principles of assessment and the design of MCQs
- Learned how to diagnose potential issues with MCQs, improving confidence in your practice
- Developed strategies to improve each stage of your MCQ design process, following analysis that you have conducted, giving you the tools to advance your practice
