Your Money or Your Life
The shelf life on posts is short. Lucky for me, articles are evergreen. Not knowing, following or contacting Alex Hormozi- his notorious post did not make me wish I knew him. As a reminder:
2014: My second gym, United Fitness, $600k in revenue.
2024: My PE firm, Acquisition.com, $250M portfolio revenue.
The secret?
No distractions for 10 years.
No meaningless purchases for 10 years.
No clubbing for 10 years.
No fantasy football for 10 years.
No friends' weddings for 10 years.
You better start now because it takes way longer than you think.
Just win.

Good for him. What works for some does not work for all. I am pragmatic and will go through this list. No one should make meaningless purchases. You can replace items that are broken.
Would a second car be a meaningless purchase? You can only drive one car at a time. If you have a family- if this man has children; did he neglect them for a decade in the name of profit? I know he is married.
LinkedIn braggadocio is about profits, not the kind of person you are. As for clubbing- I don't drink. When I went out I arrived early enough to beat the cover charge so it was inexpensive entertainment. It was instrumental in helping me after a toxic supervisor made me wonder if working was worth it.
It is. Not everyone is like that. I have never played fantasy football. Not doing something does not mean the time you would have spent in any endeavor will be used productively. I have not attended a wedding in ten years.
I have never attended a friend's wedding. In my New York Times obituary there will be no mention that everyone I knew was married before we met or after we were out of contact. They can be expensive, especially if your friends decide to have a destination wedding. I might have more chance of being invited to Mando Sallavanti's wedding than Zendaya and Andrew Garfield's wedding. Neither is in the cards.
Mileage may vary. Some work very hard and have success. Others do little and luck into success. Another group does everything right to no avail. I don't think putting all your eggs in one basket is the best course of action.
When I did well in school there was no social life whatsoever. When I had a social life, grades faltered. School does not mean a lot ultimately so it was probably better to branch out and meet many people instead of memorizing for a higher grade. What good is it to gain the world and lose your soul? I make my money. You make yours. As long as we are satisfied and aspire to something more it should not matter how much others are making.
The money you make can be spent or invested in your accounts. That is far more significant than someone else's nine figures that cost ten years of his life. You can always make money. You cannot make more time.
