NOT YOUR WILL BUT MINE BE DONE!
No matter how we look at things, no matter the perspective, outlook, intent, or outcome, we always seem to do what we feel is right to do. We become our own judges, character analysists, and policy makers for our lives. As much as we may say that God is ultimately in control, He is certainly not if we do as we please. Because God knows all things and nothing is done without God allowing it to be done, the consequences we face are always of our own doing. Scripture tells us that “The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Today our actions will tell us whether we choose death or life – Godliness or Selfishness.
Luke 22:42 “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.”
This text sums up what it is to be a disciple that is truly dedicated, set apart, faithful and committed to all that God has in store for him or her. The weight of that moment rested so heavily upon Jesus that He makes this request to the Father. But in making this request, He realizes the magnitude of the assignment and recommits Himself to the will of the Father. I believe that in the world we live in today, we must realize the magnitude of the assignment that stands before us and recommit ourselves to the will of God over and above our own.

The truth of the matter is that we do live in a selfish, evil world. The dynamics of life have changed so much that today possessions have more value than a life. Deaths, no matter how many merely seem to add to the statistics and are soon forgotten. Some think nothing about murdering others for mere material gain. We seem to live in a world where the value of life has seriously been eroded by lies and deceit so much so that we don’t truly understand what the word ‘LOVE’ means. Maybe this may be the reason why we take the love of God also for granted.
Although Jesus came from heaven above to reach out to us and do His Father’s will, our every thought, action, desire, and intention seems to be focused on ourselves. We are more concerned about our careers, our futures, our stability, our economy, our survival and getting all that we want no matter what the cost. Sadly, all of these are meaningless if we lose our souls to eternal damnation. Scripture exhorts us to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” In Proverbs 16:9 we read: “A man’s heart plans his way: but the LORD directs his steps.” Without God we are clueless, without Him we are doomed, without Him we have nothing of worth. Consider these and change the title back to what it should read – “Not my will, but thine be done!”
