Your mindset matters

Being promoted to a higher position or negotiating with stakeholders doesn't depend only on knowledge and qualifications, sometimes it is a matter of mindset. You might have very good ideas but when the time comes to negotiate or show your abilities you doubt yourself. Why is this happening and what can be done to perform your best?

It's true that having a growth mindset and a confident attitude can play an important role in being successful in your career and in negotiating with stakeholders.

?Here are some reasons why you might be doubting yourself, and some strategies to help you perform your best:

1.???Lack of self-confidence

?It's natural to feel nervous or unsure of yourself when negotiating or presenting your ideas to others. However, if you lack self-confidence, this can hold you back and make it difficult to present yourself and your ideas effectively.

Strategies to boost self-confidence include practicing positive self-talk, visualizing success, and seeking out feedback and support from others.

2.???Fear of failure

If you're afraid of failing or making mistakes, this can hold you back from taking risks and pursuing new opportunities. However, it's important to remember that failure is a natural part of the learning process, and that every successful person has experienced setbacks and failures along the way.

?Strategies to overcome a fear of failure include reframing failure as an opportunity for growth, setting realistic goals and expectations, and seeking out support and guidance from others.

3.???Imposter syndrome

?Imposter syndrome is a common experience among high achievers, where you feel like a fraud or that you don't deserve your success. If you're experiencing imposter syndrome, it can be difficult to present yourself and your ideas confidently, even if you have the knowledge and qualifications to back them up.

You can overcome imposter syndrome by acknowledging your accomplishments and strengths, reframing negative self-talk, and seeking out support and encouragement from others.

4.???Lack of preparation

Finally, if you haven't prepared adequately for a negotiation or presentation, this can make you doubt yourself and feel less confident.

Iimprove your preparation by practicing your presentation or negotiation skills, seeking out feedback and guidance from others, and doing research on the topic or audience beforehand.

In summary, building a growth mindset and a confident attitude can help you perform your best in negotiations and presentations. By understanding and addressing the reasons why you might be doubting yourself, and by practicing strategies to boost your self-confidence and improve your preparation, you can present yourself and your ideas effectively and achieve success in your career.
