Your Mind is the Greatest Resource

Cultivate yourself. You are standing on acres of diamonds.

Listen to this, a certain farmer sold his farm to go out to the world to look for diamonds. He had heard stories by people in his village about other farmers who had made millions by discovering diamond mines elsewhere in far away places. He was so excited about the idea of going to those faraway places and look for diamonds. he could barely wait to sell his farm and go out there prospecting for diamonds himself.

He sold his farm at a throw away price, and spent the rest of his life roaming the continent searching for diamonds. He did not find any diamonds, all those places he went. Finally, worn out of despondency, he jumped into the river and drowned.

Meanwhile, the farmer who bought his farm, happened to be crossing the small stream on the property, when he noticed a bright flash of blue and red light on the stream bottom. He bent down and felt it was a rock. He picked it up. It was a good size stone. Admiring it, he took it to his house and put it on his fireplace mantle.

Several weeks later, another farmer came to visit him. The visitor looked closely at the stone on the fire mantle, and nearly fainted. He asked the farmer in awe. “Do you know what this is?” The owner said, “no.” He said that it was just a beautiful rock he found in the stream. The visitor told him that he has the largest diamond ever discovered. Unbelievable. He said that the creek was full of stones like that.

It turns out the farm that the first farmer had sold so that he could go and find a diamond mine somewhere else, became the most productive diamond mine in the whole continent. The first farmer had owned acres of diamonds. He sold them for practically nothing, to go and look for diamonds elsewhere. If the first farmer had only taken time to study and prepare himself and learn what diamonds look like in their rough state, and since he already owned the land, and thoroughly explore the land he had before looking elsewhere, all his dreams would have come true.

If we only have the wisdom and patience to intelligently explore ourselves, to explore the work in which we are engaged at the moment, we will find the treasures we seek. Before we go out running for greener pastures, let us make sure that ours is not just greener, but even greener than our neighbors. The other pasture that seems to be better than ours is just getting better care than ours. Besides when we are looking at other people’s pastures, other people are looking at ours. No matter what your goal may be, the road to it is within yourself. It is within your mind. The diamonds that you want are in the very thing that you are doing at the present time. Your mind is your richest resource. thoroughly explore what you are doing, so that you understand it even better, before tempting something new. The kingdom is within you.

This story emphasizes the importance of contentment, resourcefulness, and the realization that often, what we seek is right in front of us. By understanding this lesson, we can learn to cultivate gratitude for their present situation and harness the potential within it rather than constantly seeking fulfillment elsewhere.

The above story seem to resonate with the book- " "Who Moved My Cheese!" Prof. Waruingi, I have not forgotten some years back when you recommended that book for me. I read it and saw a different phase of life. Thank you so much!

Exactly! It is only the will power that can boost the mind to change to its highest point, and then be transformed. Good topic indeed!
