Methane Mitigation Summit Series
The largest global summit series on measuring, monitoring and mitigating methane emissions in the oil and gas industry
In recent news the DOE (Department of Energy) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) announced $850 million for 43 projects selected for negotiation, that will help small oil and gas operators, Tribes, and other entities to reduce methane pollution from the oil and gas sector, as part of Joe Biden's Investing in America agenda. This investment incentivizes companies’ near-term actions to conserve valuable energy resources for American consumers, improve operational efficiencies in a global market, and reduce methane emissions.?(Source: U.S. Department of Energy)
“The public health of our nation depends greatly on our ability to drastically reduce harmful pollution from America’s largest source of industrial methane – the oil and gas sector,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “This historic investment, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, is helping energy communities and deliver long-lasting health and environmental benefits across the country. At the same time, it will support small operators' ability to replace and upgrade old equipment, reducing emissions from marginal conventional wells.”
Envana Software Solutions, Bridger Photonics, Xplorobot and Windfall Bio are among those to earn grants from the DOE and EPA.
In other news, the US Department of Transportation has issued a final rule to bolster safety standards for natural gas pipelines. Announced on Friday, the new rule emphasizes updating leak detection and repair requirements for gas pipelines to ensure they are environmentally friendly.?The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) estimated that the rule would result in up to $1.5 billion more in annual net benefits while eliminating up to 500,000 metric tons of methane emissions yearly. And in the last few days, a new study by researchers from the University of Gothenburg and the Voice of the Ocean research foundation, revealed that methane released from the damaged Nord Stream pipelines spread across a large area of the southern Baltic Sea. This persisted for several months, and impacted 23 protected marine areas. While most of the methane gas rapidly rose to the sea surface and entered the atmosphere, a portion remained underwater and was carried by ocean currents, contributing to its widespread distribution. Insider perspectives from IOGP Europe, Northeast Natural Energy, Seneca Resources Company, the Clean Air Task Force, and more.
Bringing together oil and gas operators, regulators, associations, and industry leaders with a common goal, the Methane Mitigation Summit Series offers an immersive exploration of the latest technologies and opportunities for methane mitigation worldwide. Perspective is key, and we're excited to share why technical experts, strategic sustainability executives, regulatory representatives, and others participate in our series - and why you should too!
The Methane Mitigation Summit Series has welcomed hundreds of the oil and gas industry’s leading professionals from across the globe since December 2022.
Action on methane is of the most effective steps the energy sector can take to mitigate climate change. Global methane emissions from fossil fuel operations increased by close to 5% in 2021. Under the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario, total methane emissions from fossil fuel operations must fall by around 75% between 2020 and 2030. Rapidly reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector is essential and companies must look to maximize methane mitigation strategies while meeting the global demand for affordable and reliable oil and natural gas.
With insights from the world's leading oil and gas operators, NGOs, academics, government representatives, and more, the Methane Mitigation Series has seen an immersive exploration of the latest tools, strategies and opportunities for reducing emissions across operations, and quickly become the go-to event for those looking to reduce oil and gas methane emissions.
