Methane Mitigation Summit Series
The largest global summit series on measuring, monitoring and mitigating methane emissions in the oil and gas industry
It was announced on Thursday, February 13, that GHGSAT & KODA Resources, LLC have expanded a partnership to monitor methane emissions across the Uintah Basin in Utah. Under this renewed commitment, KODA Resources will leverage GHGSAT's aircraft technology to monitor its oil and gas infrastructure for methane emissions. With this data, oil and gas operators can manage emissions proactively, which not only benefits the planet, but also minimizes the financial costs associated with methane emissions and provides insights on asset health--helping operators gain an edge in a competitive global environment. This news came the week after GHGSAT and aramco announced they were joining forces to address methane emissions. Under this partnership, GHGSAT's satellite technology will help to monitor Aramco's major upstream facilities and infrastructure, supporting Aramco to identify and confirm unintentional leaks, establish what caused them, and address them swiftly.
Also in the news week, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) on Wednesday launched a publicly available methane library to help oil and gas companies access information on the technologies, tools, and strategies to reduce methane emissions and flaring. The library contains over 150 mostly external resources, covering the full range of topics related to abating emissions of methane – a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide. Academic papers and think tank reports can also be found in the library as well as some OGCI publications. (Source: OGCI)
Envana Software Solutions has released an article, written by Keegan Conley, Evana Methane Regulatory Advisor, which evaluates the resilience of methane regulations under a second Trump administration. While Trump is positioned for regulatory rollbacks, the administration’s broader energy policy includes: Expanding LNG exports, reducing permitting delays, and reversing Biden-era environmental rules.
The challenge is that many of these goals conflict. For instance, reducing methane regulations could restrict U.S. gas producers' access to European markets, where strict emissions requirements are enforced on the entire supply chain. Moreover, legal and procedural constraints make it challenging to eliminate regulations without introducing viable alternatives, which is a time-consuming and costly process. President Trump recently signed an Executive Order which included the announcement of tariffs on all products from Canada, including energy resources. Gitane De Silva, Former CEO at Canada Energy Regulator, said: "U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports will hurt American consumers. There are things Canada can do to increase our competitiveness. Removing barriers to internal trade can increase our GDP by 3-9%, depending on the study. This will not only make us stronger as a nation, but help to offset the blow of U.S. tariffs" (Source: Gitane De Silva). Tariffs on Canadian imports were due to come into effect on February 4, however they were suspended by 30 days on February 2. (Source: Steptoe)
And last but not least, Project Canary released a new guide this week, 'Subpart W Changes: A Comprehensive Guide to 2025 Subpart W Updates', covering the Environmental Protection Agency's introduction of significant updates to Subpart W for the 2025 reporting year (submitted in 2026), reshaping how emissions are reported and measured. The guide breaks down the key updates, their implications, and what operators need to know. (Source: Subpart W Changes: A Comprehensive Guide to 2025 Subpart W Updates)

Tools for Tracking Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data in Heavy Industries
GHG tracking tools energy professionals can use to analyze GHG emissions data in heavy industries, regardless of size.
Industries relying on heavy machinery and facilities have pollution ballooning from smokestacks and diesel fuel running their fleets. Every corner allows greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to accumulate, offering an equal chance to track impact and use the data to implement solutions.
So, the question is, what tools can stakeholders use to analyze heavy industries, regardless of size? Find out below!
The Methane Mitigation Summit Series has welcomed hundreds of the oil and gas industry’s leading professionals from across the globe since December 2022.
Action on methane is of the most effective steps the energy sector can take to mitigate climate change. Global methane emissions from fossil fuel operations increased by close to 5% in 2021. Under the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario, total methane emissions from fossil fuel operations must fall by around 75% between 2020 and 2030. Rapidly reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector is essential and companies must look to maximize methane mitigation strategies while meeting the global demand for affordable and reliable oil and natural gas.
With insights from the world's leading oil and gas operators, NGOs, academics, government representatives, and more, the Methane Mitigation Series has seen an immersive exploration of the latest tools, strategies and opportunities for reducing emissions across operations, and quickly become the go-to event for those looking to reduce oil and gas methane emissions.
